Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek Voyager so please don't sue. I'm not making money.
AN: Hey, first thing I have submitted in the Star Trek section. It is a simple rhyme scheme, but whatever. This is about the Doc and his two sides fighting one another. The side that has been programmed to be a doctor and the one side that wants to be more. Yeah, I took a few lines from the Hippocratic Oath… but first I want you all to know that the line: "Do no Harm" does NOT appear in the Hippocratic Oath… however, seeing as the Doc said it so often, I thought I might as well add it… so yeah. Have fun :)
I Swear to Fulfill
I swear to fulfill,
Though I've never read
A covenant to which
Someone said that I pledged.
The lights hit my eyes,
And dance in my vision,
Like fairies or sprites,
My sugar-plumb prison.
I'll walk in shadows
That I am bound to honor
Not sure I can leave one
To tell some other.
Words from my mouth,
Strung together with care
They say what I mean,
Though emotionally bare.
I'll keep all your secrets
I don't have my own
If you would rather not say,
I'll leave you alone.
I'm always the same,
Just another charade,
I'll keep it inside,
If it's all just the same.
To save and to take,
You won't understand,
What I know I must do
And What I know you'll demand.
What this all comes down to,
Is who that I am,
The one I've become,
Or the one that's programmed?
And deep in myself,
There's a silent alarm,
That strangles my breath
And sounds 'do no harm'.
There are words in my mind
That only repeat,
And they trigger nothing,
But a quiet defeat.
The lights hit my eyes
And dance in my vision,
Like fairies or sprites,
My sugar-plumb prison,
Where I swear to fulfill,
Though I've never read,
A covenant to which,
Someone said that I pledged.
