He was in the greenhouse alone, tending the Devil's Snare. It had to be done at night. As he was walking out, Professor Neville Longbottom almost walked right into Professor Luna Lovegood.
"Sorry, Luna, didn't see you there."
"No worries Neville. I was just rounding up the mooncalves. I saw someone up here and thought I would say hello."
"Hi, Luna."
"Hello, Neville."
She stood there, her long blonde hair flowing around her shoulders. The moonlight lit up her face ever so lightly. Neville thought she was breathtaking.
"Say, Luna, I was wondering if you would like to…um…"
"That would be lovely, Neville," she said in her sweet, dreamy voice.
"Great. Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow night, then?"
"Of course."
He walked off towards his quarters, smiling from ear to ear.
The next night, Valentine's night, he met Luna outside the castle entrance. She was dressed in a lovely purple robe and a purple hat with beautiful red feathers.
"You look beautiful, Luna," he smiled at her.
"You look rather charming yourself, Neville," she smiled back.
"Shall we?" He offered his arm to her. She took it and they walked together to Hogsmeade, chatting along the way. Luna assumed they were going to Madame Pudifoot's for the special Valentine's dinner they hold, but Neville surprised her. Instead they went to the Shrieking Shack, of all places. Once inside, Luna saw that it was not the same place she had known in school. It had been renovated. The walls had been painted and were now the same shade as spring grass. The floors were new and shiny, a wonderful shade of ebony.
"Neville this is quite lovely," she said as she took in the scene around her. Neville had set up a little table for the two of them, with pink candles that he lit up with a flick of his wand. There were wonderful flowers in every color Luna could think of, and two silver plates sat beside matching water goblets.
"Not nearly as lovely as you," the words escape his mouth involuntarily.
Luna reached up on her tip toes and kissed him softly on the cheek. "Happy Valentine's Day, Neville."
"Happy Valentine's Day, Luna."
