Author's Note: This is my first story on here, so I am open to constructive criticism. I'm not entirely sure how this is going to turn out….
Thanks!

Thunder roared in the fall air. Cold nipped at my cheeks. My window smashed open. I awoke with a start. For some unknown reason, I was drenched in sweat.
"Mother!" I tested my voice. It was feeble, and I doubted anyone could hear me from my room.
I attempted to stand. I hadn't realized I had a splitting headache until now. It made it difficult to stand. Eventually my knees gave way and I fell to the floor with a thump.
"Alice!" My mother shrieked. She fell to her knees beside me. "Doctor, we need to call a doctor." My mother muttered to herself. "Scarlet fever, rash, headaches," She mumbled. Mother was a nurse at the local asylum. Scarlet fever was common with the patients; maybe she had brought the wretched disease home with her. What was my name again?
"Alice? Alice stay with me now. You are going to be okay. Alice." Mother yells at me. "The doctor is coming. You are going to be okay."
A flash of lightning flashed through my room. For the first time, I realized it as still dark out. Mother muttered an incoherent a curse word while looking out the window.
"It has been nearly an hour! Where is the damn doctor?" Mother was livid, or at least it looked that way to me. "Your father sent for him ages ago, and your father, too, is not home yet. Perhaps the rain has held them." I knew mother was only talking to keep me conscious. It was all nonsense, I knew I was fine. I didn't need a doctor. The door slammed and I knew that the doctor was here. Father rushed in to my room, demanding he see his only daughter. My father was different than most men in that century. Most men treated women with disrespect, and disgust, but my father was different. He loved my mother more than he loved life. He loved both of us more than he loved life.
The doctor took one glance at me and frowned. "I fear nothing can be done."
Mother shouted at him. Shouted of how he had to do everything he good. Mother was getting quieter. I knew what was happening. Another man entered the room.
"Take her to the hospital. If you refuse to help her, I will." Unexpectedly, my vision was clear. I could hear everything around me. The faint plop of rain on my window, the deafening scream of my horrified mother. Dr. Cullen lifted me into his arms with ease. He looked like an angel. Before long, I fell asleep in his marble arms.
