A Day At The Beach

Chapter 1

As they headed down to the beach, Roger's thoughts were on Angel, he was remembering her, she was so lovely, beautiful in her own way. She showed them how to love fearlessly, how to say "I love you" without hesitation. The six friends had grown closer since Mimi's near-death experience, maybe it was in memory of Angel, Who knows? He thought.

But it was Mimi's idea to take a day off to go to the beach. When he and Mark had protested, she insisted, "No day but today". Finally, they gave in. So he, Mark, Mimi, Collins, Joanne and Maureen were trudging over the warm sand to the cleanest beach on the East Side that they could find. They had all piled into the 'Buzzline' van that Mark had borrowed from work. Mark drove the contraption, Collins held the map and figured out directions, while the rest of them squeezed in the back. It was strewn with various camera parts and filming equipment that Roger had never seen before. He sat on a crate next to a particularly foul-smelling bucket of black sludge. "Camera lubricant." Mark had replied when Roger asked him what the sludge was. Roger instantly regretted pushing his way to the little window that separated the back of the van from the front, so that he could help with directions.

It took two hours when it should have taken half an hour to get to the beach, because Mark kept getting lost. But they found their way eventually. They had to stop twice because Maureen had to pee, and Mark was thirsty. Mimi and Joanne kept trying to lighten the mood in the van by repeatedly saying "Getting there is half the fun!" I wonder how much fun we're going to have at the beach then? Roger thought.

When they finally got to the beach, the girls took turns taking their time getting changed in the back of the van. The men had worn their swim trunks as shorts, so they were ready to go.

"Meems, as much as I love you, we need to get going if we're going to get back home for dinner." Roger coaxed.

"One second, this is really hard to get on!"

"You said to wait one more second, five minutes ago!"

She emerged from the back of the car and Roger thought it was well worth the wait, she wore a skimpy black bikini, with a thong bottom. He whistled. "And you were complaining." She said playfully. Joanne and Maureen changed fairly quicker than Mimi. Maureen was wearing a brilliant red bikini, Joanne had a gray-blue halter top with a skirt-style bottom. Roger had khaki-green trunks, Mark's were navy blue, and Collins' were a deep forest green.
