These Eyes Have Seen
Prologue:
The Phantomhive name was renowned all throughout the world. Their products, ranging from sweets and games to electronics and sport equipment, were extremely popular. Since the creation of the company, and the continuous expansion, the Phantomhive's reaped the benefits.
The Phantomhive family themselves moved from England to the United States when their heir and son, Ciel Phantomhive, was just a small child of three years old. Christoph and Maria Phantomhive left England with betrayal burned into their hearts. A hushed up failed assassination attempt by the Queen, who wished the rid the world of some of her dark secrets and inner workings, spurred their decision to leave the country. The Phantomhive manor burned down not three days after their secret departure.
The media went wild. Speculations were made. The assassin was found and tried in the World Court, spilling some of the secrets and the unwritten contract between him and the monarch. Other figureheads were blamed as being the strings behind the operations, and a ploy to frame the Queen. Her reputation was saved from the plot and she publicly apologized to the Phantomhive family. However, the damage had been done. The Phantomhive family settled in to a secluded area in Virgina amongst the forest, rivers, and valleys. The surrounding environment offered a small gift of home in a foreign country. They quickly adapted nonetheless, easily fitting into circles and making fast friends with the other elites of the world and States.
Our story begins when young Ciel Phantomhive turned five. He surprised his mother by announcing that Robert would like it if she would not build a retaining wall there. Marie had been shocked to learn that Robert Weston was a restless spirit who had died violently nearby during the War Between the States. Marie placed flowers there instead. She nearly wept with joy when Ciel told her Robert had gone away. The little boy seemed sad to learn his friend would no longer be able to play with him.
The Phantomhive's quickly told their son the importance of not telling strangers about his 'friends', and kept the boy's abilities under wraps. They never dug into the mystery of why their once cheerful boy was gifted with such an ability. It had become so normal for the two parents that they never mentioned it, or thought it anything less than normal for their bright little genius.
