A.N - it's been a while since I posted anything, and I'm quite pleased with how this turned out. Enjoy.
Alec stood yet again in front of Magnus' door, his head resting against the frame.
He hadn't announced himself but he doubted the warlock was unaware of his presence.
He was counting the seconds until Magnus would speak; until the door would open; until his heart stopped aching.
400...401...
There was the sound of moment from the other side of the door and Magnus' voice could be heard, muffled but audible.
"What do you want, Shadowhunter?"
He lifted a hand to scratch the back of his neck. "I don't know."
There was a sigh from behind the door. "Of course you don't."
Alec winced. "I've..come to talk."
"You said that last time." Alec could hear the veiled pain in the warlock's voice.
"I know," He frowned. "And I'm sorry."
"You said that last time too."
Alec tapped his head against the door frame. "Look, I'm not in the mood for this right now. I just want to talk to you. Please?"
There was a moment of silence before Magnus replied. "Give me one reason why I should open this door. Give me one reason, Alexander." His voice was so quiet that Alec had to press his ear to the door to make out exactly what he'd said.
"Because I love you." He whispered back, ignoring the tears that pricked his eyes at the words.
He waited then; waited for Magnus to make his decision.
444...445...
There was a heavy sigh. "Go away Alexander."
Alec exhaled the breath he had been holding back, a frown finding it's way onto his face. "No."
"Go away." Magnus repeated, his voice wavering.
"No."
There was another sigh. "Why not?"
"Because I love you." Alec repeated, his heart dancing in his throat.
"You don't mean that."
"Yes I do."
He heard Magnus lean against the door. "Last time you told me that, I believed you Alexander, I really did. I'm not so sure anymore."
Alec's heart fell a few inches. "Please, Magnus." He begged. "Open the door."
There was another moment of silence.
498...499...
The door opened a crack, and Alec could see a brilliantly green eye gazing at him. He smiled.
The door opened a little bit wider, and he could finally see the warlock.
Magnus' hair was down, hanging below his ears. His eyes were framed with dark circles, with no makeup visible on his skin. He was pale, and Alec noticed that his hands were shaking slightly.
"What do you want, Shadowhunter?"
So we're back to this, are we? Alec thought, a slight crease in his brow.
"I love you." He said for the third time, gazing up at Magnus.
The warlock's face hardened slightly. "No. I don't think you do."
"I love you."
"Stop saying things you can't possibly mean."
"I love you." Alec took a step towards Magnus, who backed up quickly.
"Alec..." Magnus' perfect eyebrows knitted together.
"I love you." He grabbed the warlock's hand before he could back away further. Magnus struggled, trying to pull away, but Alec pulled him closer, wrapping his arm around his waist so Magnus couldn't escape.
"Let go of me.." He pleaded, avoiding Alec's gaze.
"I love you." Alec said again, pressing his lips to Magnus' neck.
"I love you." He said, pressing his lips to Magnus' face.
"I love you..." He said, pressing his lips to Magnus'...
There was a moment; a moment in which Magnus stood frozen. Alec was about to pull away, his heart plummeting into his stomach, when he felt Magnus wrap his arms slowly around his waist, returning the kiss with force. His heart soared then, and he moved his hands from Magnus' waist to his hair, knotting his fingers there.
When they finally broke apart, Alec was about to say the words again, but Magnus placed a finger on his lips.
"I know."
