***Post 'Dwarf in the Dirt' ficlet so don't read if you haven't watched yet! Nothing insane-OMG-ground-breaking but I just loved the end scene sooo much!***
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters or the show and there is no affiliation with FOX or BONES. I just like to bask in their pretty and occasionally pretend I can write something that makes sense.

Booth had asked her to go with him to his re-certification. She told him she would. Of course she would. Brennan wasn't lying when she told Dr. Wyatt that there isn't anything she wouldn't do to help Booth. After all these years working together, after all the near death experiences both of them had been through; experience taught her that Booth would never let her down. What kind of partner…friend…would she be if she didn't fervently return what he always gave her, no questions asked?
But as she stands there watching him prepare to shoot his target, she knows it is more than that. It isn't just a matter of returning a favor. It isn't just because it is the socially acceptable thing to do. It isn't because of any logical reason she can come up with. And that is the problem. Sure, she notices the way he uses different hands for his coffee and cell phone now than before his coma, but she is a scientist. I observe my surroundings. I was trained for that, she thinks. That's all it is. An alarm goes off in her brain signaling the lack of truth in that statement but she nervously shifts her weight to her other foot and pushes those thoughts to the back of her mind. Right now she needs to focus on Booth and thinking that way is not conducive to this situation.
He looks uneasy. Brennan knows he is nervous about failing this re-certification. If she is completely honest, she is worried too. Booth told her he had a bad day at the shooting range and she recommended practicing if he so wishes. However, he is a trained sniper and the best shot she has ever seen. That should be precedent enough to know that Booth will not fail.
She sees Booth lift his arms, gun in hand, and takes a deep breath. He shoots both targets various times and as impossible as she knows it is, each gunshot seems synchronized with her heightened heartbeat. Brennan notices the officer making notations. She wants to ask him what he is writing and tell him to ensure he only write positive things because that is what Booth deserves, but she doesn't.
As Booth puts the gun down, the targets are brought forward for examination and she unconsciously takes a step forward so she can take a look. Perfect shots. Brennan exhales a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Then Booth turns to look at her just as she moves her focus from the targets to him and he smiles as their eyes meet. She returns his smile along with a "thumbs up" sign because she wants to show her support. She wants him to know that she is proud of him. For a moment, they share a look and she remembers again how easy it is to look into Booth's eyes and feel an understanding that somehow always centers them.
As he turns back around, Brennan's gaze stays on Booth and her thoughts about these feelings being illogical come rushing back.
No, she thinks. They aren't logical. But they're there.
