The Flash Season 4 Episode 1 (Scenes 1 & 2)

Iris gets home from work, and sits down for dinner with her father Joe.

As Joe stares at Iris's Chicken Chow Mein, he asks her, "Are you going to eat that.."

Iris: Honestly I'm hungry but I have no appetite.

Joe: ...so...You gonna give me some?

Iris: No dad! You have a whole pot to yourself and you have Wally's leftovers!

Joe: Your right, I'm sorry. I've become really greedy. In a slow and sad tone Joe says, "I guess.. since Barry's left I haven't really been taking care of myself".

Iris sighs and lowers her voice "I'm sorry dad". After some deliberation Iris finally decides to share her chicken Chow Mein.

Joe: How can you just be okay with this? He's been gone for nearly 6 months..

Iris: You know the last thing Barry said to me before going into the speed force..He told me to keep on running... running from him.

Joe: What's that supposed to mean?

Iris: It means he's not coming back.

Joe: (In a strong voice) You don't know that.

Iris: Yes, ...(tearfully) yes I do. If he does come back, it won't be the Barry we know.

SILENCE. Iris and Joe painfully look each other in the eyes.

Iris: I can't just sit here and wait for something to happen. You always told me not to give up on people. That's what I'm doing dad. I'm not giving up on myself. This is for me, for you, for Barry because he would want to see us being strong.

Scene 2

Joe walks into work with his head down as he see's captain Singh.

Captain Singh: Where the hell is Allen?!

Joe hesitantly responds: What do you mean..I told you he's sick.

Captain Singh: Sick?! For nearly 6 months?

Joe: Look, I thought he'd be back by now, I mean...I thought he'd be back on his feet by now, but I don't think he's gonna be back anytime soon.

Captain Singh: Yeah, well I haven't heard anything from him in 6 months, so he obviously doesn't care about his job, so I'm sure he'll be glad to hear that HE'S FIRED! Captain Singh walks away frustrated.

Joe walks into his office, Cecil is standing next to his desk. They awkwardly make eye contact.

Joe: Look, Cecil right now isn't a good ti...

Before Joe can finish Cecil interrupts

Cecil: Look Joe, I know we aren't together, I get it ok, but I still care. How's Barry?

Joe looks at her without saying anything.

Cecil: He's not really ill is he? Joe, what's really going on..? Joe stands there speechless with pain in his eyes. SHORT SILENCE

Joe walks out closing the door behind him.
