A/N: This story, random as it may seem if you read my other fictions, was brought upon by a challenge I have recently joined. It is for an LJ challenge in which I have been supplied a list of 500 prompts and I have to interpret them into a story. This was the first one that I've written up but you can expect 499 more stories sooner or later.

28. Electrifying sacrifice.
Series: Sailor Moon
Proloug: In another life, Makoto had promised to always protect Serena. She had promised to always be by her princesses side, always keep the other girls head above water, and to always help the smile stay on her face. If there was one thing that Makoto would not do, it was go back on that promise.

Years ago, during the time called the Crystal Millenium, on one of her many visits to the Crystal Castle, Makoto Kino made a promise...

Back in that time she was known as Princess Jupiter, the sole ruler of her planet, and as such she had gone to the Crystal Castle for a meeting that Queen Serenity had called. She hadn't been told the reason why she was being summoned, and she hadn't bothered asking the harried sounding queen, but she knew almost instantly what it was about when she arrived.

Princess Serenity, who was without a doubt Jupiter's best friend, had been sent from the court room the moment that she arrived. And though Makoto didn't remember much of her life in that time, she remembered what was asked of her that day.

"I wish for you to watch over my daughter, Jupiter. A cloud of darkness is descending on us, and though I don't know what it is, I fear for Serena. It is much to ask of you I know, you already have the duties of your own planet on your shoulders, but I am begging you to take on this task."

"Keep her safe please." Serenity had asked her, had begged her, and, of course, Jupiter had agreed. The queen of Crystal Tokyo had dismissed her than, with a grateful smile and a wave of her hand, and Jupiter had returned to her castle.

Now, millenia later, Makoto had thoughts of that promise swimming in her head. It was an odd thing really, because they were in the middle of a fight, but she couldn't get the image of that day out of her mind. But then, it was that promise that she was close to breaking right now.

She had a chance of getting out of the fight, a chance that none of the other scouts had, and she had her shop, Petals & Pastries, waiting for her at home. It had finally been opened not even a week prior to this fight.

Makoto's brown eyes locked onto the Nega-creep, or more specifically the swords that it was swinging at Serena's head, and the promise snapped back into her mind.

She had promised that day, years ago, to always protect Serena. And even though she hadn't said it aloud, because she hadn't wanted to keep the Queen occupied for too long, she had promised to give her life for Serena, for her Princess, if she had too.

She wasn't about to go back on that promise now, even if it meant sacrificing everything that she had worked for outside of being a scout, even if it meant that she died here today, she was going to keep her word.

So she moved.

And she felt the searing pain as the swords cut through skin.

And she could hear the other scouts attacking.

And she felt herself falling.

And she could see Serena's face over hers, tears running down her cheeks as she begged Makoto to 'hold on'.

And she smiled.

She had kept the promise that she made all those millenia ago. Makoto had kept her princess, her best friend, safe and right now...That was all that mattered.
