Prologue

The boiling sun beat down on the desolate town. Once a lively city, now a hollow shell of itself. Well, not entirely hollow. There were raggedy groups of children scattered throughout the city. Then there is the adults. Pockmarked, rotting, riddled with disease. And hungry. Always hungry. They exist throughout, greatly outnumbering their youth co inhabitants. At one point in time, living in this upper-middle class city might have been a blessing. Now it's a curse.

How did things get like this though? Not overnight, it couldn't have. Damn near close it did. The world had turned topsy turvy in about three weeks or so. All that we know is that the disease was so violent, so vicious, that it had already had the majority of the world by the throat when serious emergency action was taken. Martial law was declared for a few days, until the soldiers and police officers too succumbed to the illness. Children under sixteen remained untouched however. Odd isn't it? Nobody knows why exactly. Antibodies? Genetic mutation in the generation? The disease being dormant? Why, it could be anything.

What does it matter though? There isn't even electricity flowing through the city anymore. It's all a matter of survival now. Kill or be killed. Band together or have your chances of survival be slim to none. Eat or be eaten.

All of that aside, let's observe a gang of kids why not. Which ones, which ones. How about some kids holed up in an apartment complex in Willowton California, United States of America (at least, it was). We'll call them the Summer Oaks kids. This is their story. Their story of living in a zombie apocalypse.

SS: All characters are OCs, most places are made up. Any connection to specific people or places is coincidental. All I am intending to use is Charlie Higson's idea for the disease.
