Once again, dedicated to Sanskrit, DarkJediQueen and Read300300! I LOVE YOU GUYS!

And that little unique ending at the end...I just want to say that, that format is NOT MINE! hidesJust so ya'll know.

Disclaimer: I don't own them.

Jack tugs at his finger-less gloves, and frowns. He is wondering about the last time he fought for someone.

Not for an ideal, or a concept. Not because someone happened to be in trouble (Skaara --) not because of duty or guilt or disgust (Cromwell, I'm sorry, so sorry, you can't know how sorry I am --) but because he wanted to protect someone.

Just one.

They have been captured again (don't these bastards get a clue? --) and Daniel is talking.

Jack isn't quite sure what Daniel is talking about, because he doesn't quite understand, but he knows that it's about Baal, and that it might help, and that it is passing the time, and that Daniel's long fingers are flying gracefully through the air, and that his blue, blue eyes are so bright, because Jack is finally listening.

Jack wonders, as he tugs at his gloves, about why he never listened to Daniel before. Looking at the way Daniel is so bright, because Jack is simply listening...

When Daniel has a lecture, or a story to tell, it takes a long time for him to tell it. Because he will begin, become distracted, start stuttering (you're so cute when you do that, Danny--) go off on tangents, and then have to start over because he can't remember where he broke off.

It would probably take Daniel a life-time to tell all his stories. Sitting here in a Goa'uld cell, tugging at his gloves and paying attention, Jack wants to hear every single one of them, to listen to Daniel's voice for that entire lifetime.

But to hear them all, Jack must get them out. To hear them all, he must protect Daniel.

Daniel pauses. The lights flicker; it must be Carter.

Jack stands and helps his best-friend up, and...and if Daniel kisses his cheek, and if Jack hugs him tightly...it's not because they think that they won't make it.

It's their promise that they will fight. It's their promise to protect their precious person.

Jack has always had someone to fight for. He just never knew it until now.
