Ranch Proposal
It had been a number of years since the fall of Ganon and the restoration of Hyrule as Link rode on Epona with Malon through the vast fields of Hyrule as they often did in the Hyrulean spring. Malon, as always, rode beside her longtime friend as they talked about everything under the sun.
"So what ever happened to that bean guy in the Zora region?" The rose-haired girl asked him.
"I honestly have no idea. I'd bet twenty rupees he's still in that hole chomping away on his magic beans. No matter how many times I went back to him, he always had the same amount of beans! In fact, I watched him eat for over an hour and he still didn't even make a dent in that sack of his! Why are you laughing? I'm telling the truth!" Link exclaimed. Malon had nearly fallen off her horse laughing at Link's farfetched claims. Link had heard her laugh and seen her smile countless times before, and every time, he felt his heart soar at the sight. In truth, they had been growing quite close in recent years and rarely left each other's side. Link had built a small cabin on one side of the ranch for him to sleep in and ever since he saved Hyrule, had been simply helping Ingo, Talon and Malon as a ranch hand.
"Malon, did I ever tell you about the deal Talon and I made when I was young?" Link asked.
"No? What was it?" Malon replied.
"Do you promise to hear me out all the way until the end?"
"Oh no."
"I won't tell you if you don't promise."
"Fine."
"So funny story actually. This was around the time I first met you, when I was first visiting the ranch. Talon had just gotten back from his milk delivery to the castle and was in the cucco coop. He asked me to play a little game with him involving a few of his prized, specially bred cucco. Of course, I won and as a prize, well." Link's face began to grow red as a sheepish grin spread across it. "Well he gave me your hand in marriage." Malon's face was flushed red with both embarrassment and anger all the way to the tips of her ears. "So what do you say, Malon?"
"You'd better not be doing what I think you're doing." She squinted and pointed a finger at him.
"Will you marry me?" He asked, holding out his hand to her.
"You did." She spoke incredulously. However, more angrily than disbelieving. "I can't believe it. I mean of course I will but…. goddesses above, Link, I can't believe that everyone I love has manure for brains! What was Dad thinking? Of course I love you, Link, that's never changing but did you really just propose to me by cashing in on a deal you made with my dad when we were kids?! I'm gonna give him such a hollering when we get back."
"Hey, Malon. Guess what?" Link moved Epona to just beside Malon's horse while she was still on her tirade.
"What is –" The next words were muffled as Link leaned over and caught Malon in a kiss.
"Race ya." Link spurred Epona on and they kicked up a cloud of dust and dirt as they raced down the trail towards Lon Lon Ranch.
"Oh, you are on, Fairy Boy!" She shouted after him as she too sped down the path, catching up with him.
The End
