"A Whole of Two"

A land claimed so hastily
Sought only for riches,
None believed another fight so soon
Freedom had already been won
Had only those people known
The fools they were,
Perhaps they could have seen it as it begun.
Peace between top and bottom
Argues between left and right
People believed all would remain intact.
Only to have that of the left hand
Slice straight down the middle of a body grown,
A knife the shape of a threatening gun.

Battle raging, gunfire misses blood of families,
Blood of the same.
Fools they were, the lot of them
All fought without shame
Believing that of oncoming fame.

Who was right?
Who was wrong?
Neither could hold out for much more long.
Battle fields filled to the brim
A mix of wooly gray and navy prim.
Blood felled amongst the fallen
What was the reason
For those forgotten?

Two separate sides
All in truth the same.
Who's left to fight
When all remains a broken hero
Some war veterans as well.
The South named Evil,
The North called Oppressive,
How can a whole be split in two?
Only to be forced together with that of dried up glue?
History continues,
Names go unmarked
All those that died just for a silly mark.
