Prologue:

You know it's not fiction, just a natural fact. We come together, because opposites attract.

Usually people are known to say that opposites attract. The opposites won't agree, but with the right amount of persuasion, and outside circumstances, something wonderful occurs. Opposites like sunshine and rain, which ultimately ends up a rainbow. Or a song, with two different voices, that when blended is the perfect harmony. This was the case for Lily Evans and James Potter.

Lily Evans was intelligent. She was a book-worm; one who would much rather read her potions text than attend a silly quidditch match. She was vibrant, kind-hearted, and good. She saw the good in others whenever they couldn't quite see it themselves. She stood by her beliefs.

James Potter was her exact opposite. He despised his coursework, and rarely attended classes unless it was absolutely necessary. Reading and homework were pushed aside for a good prank, or a quidditch match. He was overly self-confident, sometimes arrogant, and too mischievous for his own good.

The two were complete opposites in most ways, but then, there were other ways that tied the two of them together. They were both stubborn, almost to the point of complete insanity. The two of them were clever, more so than Lily would let on, James however let it be known to everyone. They were brave, being Gryffindor only made the fact verifiable.

Lily Evans thought the worst of James Potter. He was an infuriating prat who got sheer pleasure in the act of pissing her off.

James Potter thought the world of Lily Evans. She was an angel, if they existed. The perfect female specimen if he had ever seen one in his life.

Lily told James she hated him on a daily basis. To her, everything he did or acted upon was to spite her.

James told Lily that she'd come around one day. To him, her irritancy meant that her mere feelings of hatred were more than just hatred.

She turned him down at least once a week.

He asked her out more than three times a week.

There was nothing more that James Potter wanted than Lily Evans.

There was nothing more that Lily Evans wanted than to be left alone by James Potter.

Like all opposites, the two would eventually come together and the result would be explosive, or they would fizzle out alone, wondering what could have been if one of them would have taken the chance.

In the case of James Potter and Lily Evans, it was Lily who would have to take the chance, but would she ever do it? How long would it take for her to realize that it was a chance worth taking?
