The price of your last breath.
Kalis /Alric
"Church….on Tara….fools…..burns the village…." The girl muttered to herself as she trudged along the muddy path, hood up and hair down and pinned back, hiding her gracefully pointed ears from sight and helping her to masquerade as a human. A large puddle, or perhaps a small pond, blocked the path in front of her, thanks to the week of rain the region had been through. Kalis stepped to the slightly raised ground on the side of the path and continued on, flitting through the trees.
Some hours later, as night swept in, her grumbling was interrupted.
"Now, your money or your life," She heard a harsh voice call out up ahead. A young man, blades brandished at him by a trio of thieves, was backed against a rock in the fork in the road. Kalis grinned; the night had just gotten better. Sneaking up, she pulled her own blade out and slipped her light shield off her back. Kalis dropped her pack in a safe spot and stepped forward, to see the boy finish off the second last of his attackers, and allow the third to beg.
"My money or my life?" "I think I'll keep both." The man grinned at his would be attacker. "But tell me, what is the price of your last breath?"
Grinning in pleasant surprise, Kalis stopped where she stood, watching the ordeal. As the thief, begged for his life and the young man backed away, Kalis retrieved her things and slipped past the area, taking the first branch of the fork, content with the night after all.
