March 22, 2007

Lily tilts her face to sky as the wind blows tendrils of hair around her face. It's the 27th anniversary, the day the changed everything. The day that made Lily feel as if she was complete for the first time.

It's the anniversary of the day she became a vampire.

Lily still remembers it. She had been in love, but as a human, there was no way for her to be with him. Lily begged him to change her, and change her he did.

He taught her and guided her until she was no longer a mindless killing machine.

Lily was forced to say goodbye to everything and everyone she once knew, staging her death to make it easier on them. After all, they would continue to grow old and Lily was done aging. She couldn't stay and watch them wither and die. It wasn't fair to either her or them.

Still, despite the fact that it's sometimes lonely, being forced to hide in the shadows of the night, Lily is happy.

Arms wrap around her from behind and Lily leans back, her head resting against the shoulder. Lips graze her earlobe as he leans down and whispers, "Happy anniversary, love."

Lily turns her head and stares at Sanguini, looking deeply into his dark eyes, getting lost in them. "Thank you. It's definitely a day of celebration."

Arms tighten around Lily and his pelvis grounds into her behind.

Lily whimpers and arches her back, returning the thrust. She turns around and wraps her arms around his neck, dragging his head down to share a kiss with her. "It's going to be daylight, soon. Let's go to our bedroom and have our celebration there," she says after she breaks the kiss.

"Good idea," he murmurs and gently nips at her bottom lip, careful not to cause blood. "Do you need to feed first?"

"Already taken care of."

"Then let's go." He grabs her hand and they leap onto the roof of the next building, running to their home and shared bed, knowing as long as they have each other, they'll never be truly alone.

And to Lily, that's why she celebrates March 22nd.
