I watch as she lowers her head as she looks towards the ground. A hard case was just finished and Josh just told her that he was, once again, leaving to another country for his "Doctors without Borders" project. She took her lower lip in-between her teeth, once again attempting to hold back her feelings and act tough. My arm found its way to her shoulders to pull her close to me, but she simply tenses and shrugs me away.

"Night, Castle." Her voice is strained and she doesn't meet my eye as she grabs her jacket to leave.

A ding from the elevator and a quiet sound of the elevator closing and I was left by myself standing in the dark precinct. You said you wanted someone to just be there for you and you there for him; where you two can just jump into it together. But why can't you see that I can be that guy?

I shake my head. I'll be there when you need me to be and when you want me to be. I won't push just like Lanie had told me I shouldn't. She said that you needed time to clear your head. Hopefully my heart can wait that long.

Will had left you to do what he wanted to do without taking in what you thought and how you felt when you watched him bring his suitcases out of the apartment you two shared for months. You thought that Josh was different but you knew he wasn't as you watched him gather up his clothes for the last time. Tears finally slipping out as you leaned against the closed door.

No matter what I do or what I say, you don't let me in. You asked why I'm still here. You think that I just want your body and then leave once I get what I want. But no. That reason I'm still here is because I can't be anywhere else. I can't sit in my apartment knowing that she is doing something extraordinary and risking her life for the things that are right.

I still remember how it felt to have your lips upon mine. I still remember how your hand felt as it clasped my knee and how my larger one felt as it covered yours. I remember the look upon your face as you pulled away from the kiss, only to engulf in another one a second one later.
