The Doctor and the Midwife

Dana/Peter

PG

Doctor Dana Stowe was a sensible woman. A well educated one. A fine doctor. And an absolute mess as soon as it really sunk in that she was going to be a mother. Everything had been so carefully planned out. Right down to the minor details. But suddenly none of that mattered. And Dana couldn't seem to breathe.

Peter answered his page right away. Dana was now at the top of his priority list. She was carrying his child after all. In vitro or not it was his baby. From the moment he found out that she was pregnant everything changed for him. Including the role he wanted to play in her baby's life. In their baby's life.

He knocked softly on her office door. "Everything okay, Dana?" he asked as he popped his head inside.

"Uh, yes." she replied. "Well, actually, I'm not sure.'

'Oh, yeah?" he came inside her office. "Feeling okay?"

"Yes, physically I'm feeling fine." she admitted. "It's the other part I'm not sure about."

"I see." he reached across the desk for her hand. "Come here."

Dana placed her hand in his and allowed him to lead her over to the love seat. "It's just all kind of hit me at once, you know?"

Peter smiled. "That you're finally getting what you always wanted?" he asked. "A baby of your own?"

"That's the thing, Peter." she said. "It's not just my baby." she exhaled. "It's our baby. Your's and mine. Together."

"Yeah, usually that's how pregnancy works." he joked. "Takes two to tango."

"I know that." she replied. "And that's how I want it."

"I don't follow."

Dana thought carefully how to put her next sentence into words. This wasn't how she expected things to happen. This wasn't how she expected to feel. "I need you, Peter."

"I'm here for you, Dana. You know that."

"No not just now while I'm pregnant." she clarified. "I need you to help me raise this baby."

tbc...? I just wanted to put this out there. I'm not sure if anyone is interested in Strong Medicine anymore. I'm fine with leaving it. I'm fine with adding a few more chapters if anyone is interested.
