Author's Note: cheesy title. I based this story on the title. Deal with it.
Ok, I was walking down the hall at school and someone was saying a book title or something, and I heard "Tears for" like Tears for something and I just thought "tears for tiger! It could be a sad little story! And voila! The fic emerged.
This is a worst-case scenario, what would have happened if officials were certain of the Rachel's crew members' death. I am a die-hard J/C fan, and the story just sort of came. Sad, sappy elements. You have been warned.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
**Cassie***
My cell phone rang. I picked it up.
"Hello. Cassie?" the now-familiar (although it really shouldn't have been) voice on the other end greeted me, sounding grave.
"Yes, Mr. President?" I responded. What could it be?
"As you know, Jake Berenson," my heart leaped at his name, "lead an expedition into space to find Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. I have received word that they have located the Blade Ship." He paused and I interrupted.
"That's good right? So they're coming home?" I asked, feeling rather excited but also knowing that this could very well be bad.
And bad it was. "I'm afraid not, Cassie." He sighed. "They were very low on power, and the only thing they could do was ram the Blade Ship. Menderash, one of the crew members, contacted me and informed me that that was their only option. I have tried several times to contact them, but there is no response. I fear the worst."
My entire body trembled. I was having problems merely standing up. The shock was so great. "You, you mean they m-m-might be… dead?" I asked, disbelieving. They couldn't be! No, they couldn't.
The president avoided answering me directly. "I just wanted to let you know before we made the announcement public. Better for you to hear from me than CNN. I'm sorry, Cassie. Goodbye." He said, and hung up.
Jake? Dead? No! It couldn't be! He died thinking he was to blame… and I was to blame. I said to wait a year. A year! By the end of a year, he could be depressed or worse! What was I possibly thinking…

That night, I went home and watched the news.
Billions would mourn for three lost heroes. I would mourn
for three lost friends.

A/N: Sad huh? And I AM a diehard J/C fan… but the idea was there, I couldn't not write it…
