A/N This is my first year story for the class Transfiguration in the challenge Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, posted in the forums. The mandatory prompt is to write about Minerva Mcgonagall. I also used the following optional prompts: Sunglasses, Idiot, Jump, tray and stop

THE TRANSFIGURATION PROFESSOR

Minerva Mcgonagall was sitting at the desk in her office, today was her 60th birthday. She was unhappy... still. It had been years, but she still missed him. She left him so she would not end up unhappy like her mother had, but she was unhappy anyway. She loved teaching and magic, but she missed Dougal so much... with the way things were going now, she almost wished she had married him.

***FLASHBACK***

"Doug!" the girl cried, gripping tightly to her armrests. She was riding passenger in a 1910 Model T and 'Doug' (Dougal Mcgregor) was driving it. The term 'driving' is used loosely in the previous sentence, for he was hardly in control, his twists and turns scared Minerva half to death!

Doug slammed on his brakes, causing Minerva to jolt forward in her seat. When they came to a complete stop, she gathered her balance and sat up, looking at Doug, "Don't scare me like that!"

The boy looked at the girl, and took her sunglasses off so he could look directly in her eyes. He kissed her, for a long moment. When he pulled back, Minerva kept her eyes closed, savoring the kiss for what it had been: pure love. When she opened her eyes, she saw Doug staring at her with some small object in his hand.

He held up the object and said, in a nervous, yet deep, voice, "Minerva Mcgonagall, Would you marry me?"

"YES!" she flung her arms around him and they kissed again.

*** END FLASHBACK***

She never did marry him, she didn't want to repeat her mother's mistakes. She felt like and Idiot now, with the war, and that woman to deal with, she though that maybe she would be happier in the muggle world, with him.

Minerva Jumped, when she heard a knock on her office door. "Come in!" she called.

In came the Weasley twins. "We heard..." One began.

"That it is your birthday."

"And thought, that maybe..."

"We would, bring you something." and on held out a small tray, on which sat a cupcake with two small candles saying '60.'

Minerva was touched, she really did like the twins, though her stern reputation, didn't allow her to show it often, she thought they knew she liked them, if they didn't they did now. She smiled at them and a tear caught in her eye. She wasn't an Idiot, students like these were why she loved her job, and why she was overall quite happy, in spite of the war and that woman. She loved to teach, and working with the students, and that proved she had made the right choice.
