Been rereading. Been remembering if had some ideas. Unfortunately with my own book series I'm working on and a full time job I don't have a ton of time so I need help with deciding what's the most interesting. Vote in the comments and tell me some ideas yourself.
1. Introduce a character named Roxanne into the series and follow the cannon storyline. She would have an ability to emit sonic like blasts from her hands. Came catches her early on and encased her hands. She's beaten and downtrodden for her past (this is a secret so shh) and eventually ends up with her hands broken to the point that Lana can't even heal her. Throughout the series she learns to channel her power through her voice and helps Sam and Astrid.
2. After the series finale. Follow the survivors through PTSD counseling and realize even with all the counseling they can't get over thier nightmares. They return to set fire to Perdido Beach to act like wiping the slate clean but no one can light the match because they are afraid until they see Taylor who tells them it's ok to let go and they finally do allowing her to be free as the fire consumes the town.
