Boy on the Moon
It is a cold and chilly night. Being this late at night, most people are sleeping comfortably in their warm houses. However, unlike these lucky people, one lonely boy sits on a bench. He looks as if he just ran the marathon for he breaths greedily as if he's taking his first gulp of air. He wears nothing but a simple t-shirt and regular jeans, but instead of feeling cold, he feels as if his body is on fire. The boy leans back against the bench and tilts his head back, closing his eyes as his mind recalls earlier events.
You're nothing but a monster.
Natsume lets out a breath that he doesn't know that he has been holding.
Why did you even have to be born?
He clenches his jaw.
Murderer!
Brilliant crimson eyes suddenly flash open; angst and deep regret swimming in their pools. He knows what they said is true—they are right of course. Why should someone like him be loved? What right does he have to fall in love? He doesn't deserve any of that. He is a cold-hearted monster who doesn't deserve happiness.
Hey Mr. Grumpy, cheer up some more!
Guilt courses through his veins.
Stop blaming yourself, silly!
Shut up, shut up, shut up!
I'm won't stop talking until I make you laugh!
Why? Why can't you leave me alone?
Because I love you, silly! And I always will, no matter what! You are my sun—
STOP!
Nearby birds fly away and Natsume hardly realizes that he shouted for his mind preoccupies itself with a stubborn idiot who can't leave him alone…no, she'll leave him alone now, because he broke her. He had no other choice! He just…he just doesn't want her to get any more hurt than she already is. He knows that if he keeps her she will get hurt and it will all be because of him and he will rather die than see the person he loves get hurt.
He looks up at the moon for guidance. It shines brightly that night and normally the boy would take a few moments the marvel at its beauty but right now all he wanted was a sign that will hopefully help him.
The moon is not full; its crescent shape is only missing the boy who usually sits there with his fishing pole. Sometimes Natsume wondered why that boy was up there. Does he ever feel lonely? Does he find his life fulfilling? Doesn't he wish he could be on earth amongst his own kind?
No, he is not of our kind, Natsume decides. He is someone who just watches the world from above—like God (does he really exist? If he does then he must really hate him because his life is and always has been hard).
The boy on the moon is missing. Where is he? He must be feeling homesick. He needs to come back. His moon lacks the beautiful shine it usually has—it misses him too.
Natsume gets up from the bench.
He has made his decision.
It's time to go home.
…
Hopefully, it's not too late.
