by mew-tsubaki
Note: The Mahou Tsukai no Yome characters belong to Yamazaki Kore-sensei, not to me. This is a drabble done for a couple of prompts ("Seeking Solace" & "Breathe Again;" the post can be found here on my tumblr: 135096120478/ combining-the-two-drabbles-5-seeking-solace) for palmtreeexpress on tumblr. :] Read, review, and enjoy!

He finds her sitting outside, still as a doll—as if that was what he'd bought at the auction, an item like anything else bought by anyone else.
Chise doesn't look at him, instead staring straight, forward. She makes no move to talk, nor does she clear her throat. But she takes an audible breath and sways a bit, leaning in his direction.
Elias takes it as a signal that she's waiting for him to join her. So he sits down on the stoop in front of the front door with her. It's awkward and not comfortable because of his large size, but it's not bad. Nothing's ever bad when he has Chise with him. Then he notices what's in her lap. Oh.
She continues not to look at him as she cradles the tiny body in her hands. "I found it earlier, being playing with by a fox. I chased the fox off, but it was already dead. I couldn't do anything."
"I see." Elias peers down at the winged creature and looks at Chise. "But don't blame yourself, Chise. That's not what magic is for. That's not your job. You can't do everything."
"But why not?" She stares back at him, defiance in her bright green eyes, but she calms the longer she shares his gaze. Finally she looks back at the fairy on her lap. "I just…I get annoyed with the rules and the limitations sometimes. You'd think this is something magic's for."
Elias pats her head, drawing it towards his chest in the process. She rests easily against him. "I know. There are many things magic can't do. But there are many things it can do. I, myself, try to focus on those things, and it'd do you well to do the same, Chise."
"Elias…thank you."
They're words of gratitude, and yet they're so much more, coming from Chise. He can hear in her tone how she believes him, how much she trusts him and his words, and he knows how easily he could take advantage of such a person…but he would never do that to Chise. Perhaps he even can't.
There are many things magic can't do. And there are many things it can do. And then…there are many kinds of magic.
And Elias thinks Chise may not be the only one with magic to learn.

They're so natural, it's insane. X3 And he's such a happy cat around her… *needs to read more of the manga, though*
Thanks for reading, and please review!
