Intuition

Ronon sat down next to Jennifer in the mess hall. He studied the meal before him and delved in. Jennifer was talking to him about somebody's medical check-up but he wasn't really paying attention. He was more interested in studying his two friends, sat together further down the mess hall.

He saw the gentle ease they held with each other. He saw the kind of relaxation that only comes from full and complete trust. He saw the comfortable smile on Teyla's face as she listened to John. He saw the twinkle in her eyes when John looked directly into them. He saw the thrill that rippled through John's skin when his hand brushed Teyla's. He saw that boyish smirk with a hint of vulnerability when John feared his feelings were on show. He saw the joy they shared in each other's company.

Ronon became aware of his own surroundings again as Rodney plonked his tray down beside him. The smaller man was just about to tuck into his meal when he nodded towards the two previous objects of Ronon's attention. "Hey, John and Teyla." He said, standing up from his seat. Ronon put his hand across Rodney's arm's as he attempted to lift up the tray. The scientist sat back down at Ronon's headshake. "Oh," he said, a perplexed frown burrowing into his forehead. But it was quickly forgotten as he got on with his meal.

Ronon saw Teyla's face light up before he heard the high-pitched laugh escape from her lips. The sound was accented by a low chuckle from the man sat opposite her.

Ronon knew the feelings they had for each other. Neither had ever needed to tell him out loud, their body language had talked for them. Ronon knew they were meant to be together, and he knew one day, in their own time, they would be.

Two months later.

Ronon went back into the mess hall having forgotten the action figure Sheppard had given him that morning. He paused just inside the room, watching two of his colleagues leaving the table the team had just had lunch together at.

He'd noticed how inseparable John and Teyla had seemed lately. He'd noticed the tenderness in Teyla's touch whenever she was around John. He'd noticed the mischievous glint in John's eye when he shared a smile with her. He'd noticed that hint of vulnerability had been replaced with an openness, only for Teyla. He'd noticed the change in their relationship, the things they thought they were doing a good job of hiding. He'd known they would see what he'd seen all along.

John glanced back at the mess hall as he was leaving, he saw Ronon standing near the other doorway, staring at the two of them. Ronon's expressions never changed much in his daily life; you had to know him well to notice the nuances. John knew him well. That look was undeniable. Ronon knew.

The End.
