Enjoy! ~FrozenDemigod
Will was in a trance. It wasn't surprising; however, it could be dangerous. Just to him, though. It happened sometimes when he was on the verge of losing a patient. This was one of the only times that he cracked under the pressure. Of course, he did the best he could with all of his patients. It's just that sometimes… it wasn't enough.
She was 15. A couple of demigods had been assembled to pick up a demigod not far from camp. She was one of the ones that went on the mission. It was her first time on a mission outside of camp. Will remembered seeing her excited, yet determined face at the campfire the night Chiron asked for some volunteers. He could tell that she wanted to her part and help both the incoming demigod and the camp. The camp waved them off the next morning, expecting them back around mid-afternoon to early evening. They wished them all of the luck in the world. But… demigods weren't usually lucky. They were attacked just short of the border and she had hung back, doing her best to defend the other two. They did manage to kill the monster and bring her back in. But blood was pouring out of her at that point. She was taken to Will immediately.
His head was swimming and everything around him seemed muddled, almost as if he were submerged in water. His eyes were focused intensely on the body before him. His fingers flew, while he was doing surgery, doing his absolute best to patch things up. Will knew she was counting on him to save her life. And was going to do it. He was, he was, HE WAS. Beads of sweat popped out on his forehead and he could feel his eyes sting as they were brimmed with tears of both anguish and frustration.
"Come on. Come on!" He pressed his hands on her chest and began rhythmically pumping.
1, 2, 3, 4; Silence
Again
1, 2, 3, 4; Silence
One more—
"Will? Will, stop."
There was only one person that could manage to get through to him in this state. Will shook his head. He wasn't allowed back here… He regained his focus and began to try again.
"Come on! Come back. I know you can do it! You're one of the strongest people here."
1, 2, 3, 4; Silence
Come Back.
1, 2, 3, 4; Silence
This time—
An olive hand suddenly was placed over two blood-soaked ones.
"Will. Please. She isn't coming back."
Silence. Will blinked, coming back to reality. Her eyes were open, glazed over, staring blankly at the ceiling. No heartbeat, no pulse, no… nothing. Beside him stood the son of Hades, staring sympathetically at both Will and the fresh corpse. Moving his hand off of Will's, he reached over and closed the girl's eyes. He put his hand back on Will's. Azure eyes locked with coffee-brown ones.
"I'm so sorry. You did your best, I know you did. But… I'm sorry. She's not coming back."
Nico had him in his arms before Will's knees hit the floor.
