You'd think nothing much happened on top of the world. I mean why would you? It's not where everyone would call the center of things to come. Especially in a cold almost Uncolonized area such as this. Common misconception I should say. A very narrow way of thinking considering this was where one of the most legendary tales took place.
I should know I'm related to canine who sparked it. Balto the Lead Sled Dog...the hybrid that managed to almost single handedly change the face of the sled teams. When all of Nome saw that a wolf-dog could save them they soon recruited others like him. Enter me Kallisto the...well I don't have much of a title yet but I'm getting there. It won't be easy considering who I have to live up to and last time I checked, he was getting a statue.
"Kallisto what're you thinking about?" The Hero dog himself pressed me. "You always seem to have this intense stare into space like you're waiting for something to just appear. Is there something wrong? Do you wanna call in sick today?"
"No thanks Balto." I smiled at him. He really did care about all his teammates. Even the ones that still haven't exactly made a name for themselves yet. "I just need a little time to think."
"About?" Balto kept pressing the topic.
"Oh its nothing bud, That's just me, that's all, Really. I'm just reflecting on how great this season was for us, Nothing could have possibly went better than it already has for us. I feel like I've been here for years being surrounded by such an amazing race team like you guys man. I really do love you guys like brothers for everything" Kallisto said in a very bright tone. That was only half the truth, Something kept making him think there was a deeper reason their bond was so strong and it was a bit of a bother. He kept dreaming about this mysterious white wolf that seemed very familiar to the one Balto had told him about when they talked about their pasts one night, The description for some reason reminded him of one of his one parents and the more he thought about it, the more it bothered him. But right now he was not gonna worry about it and savor in victory with his teammates and friends.
Well this was going to be a quick off season but a good one. That was for sure, Now was not the time to dwell on personal conflicts, Now was the time to enjoy the fruits of their labor this season and enjoy one another's company.
"Come on man, lets go celebrate this momentous season with the other guys while we have the chance" he added cheerfully
There wasn't much place they could go accept for the boiler room. It's where "all the bones were buried" so to speak. It was also home to their food supply. Hopefully the other members of the sled team hadn't gotten greedy
Unfortunately for them they had an especially fat sled mate. So it was no surprise when the food was gone. Kallisto huffed out in frustration while Balto chuckled. The red wolf-dog didn't see how it was funny but he'd find out in a sec.
"Well now we have an excuse to go hunting in the forest!" Balto proclaimed happily. "We can go get some fresher food that way."
Kallisto liked the sound of that. He hadn't been out of Nome without a sled team in awhile. It would be good to have fresh air without being attached to several other grumpy men.
