A/N- Some of the post Kenny Dies fics I've come across have focused on the reactions of two of his three close friends, but what about his kid sister's reaction? Hence this little fic. Enjoy!

The house's occupants were sound asleep, save for the little girl who resided at the single level house. Unable to sleep, Karen got out of bed and silently padded out of her room. She made her way along the darkened hallway towards the table that held her middle brother's remains, much like she did every night at this time. When she approached the table where the jar holding her middle sibling's remains had been placed, she stopped walking and carefully lifted the jar from the table before making her way back to her room. She'd been doing this every night in the month since he'd passed on, but she also made sure to put the jar back where it belonged just before her parents woke up.

Once back in her room, she sat down on the floor and found herself wondering for the millionth time why the brother she looked up to and revered had deserted her the way he had. As she sat there with the jar in front of her, she flashbacked to the last time she saw him alive during a visit she'd made with her parents and oldest brother to the hospital.

Clutching her favorite bear in her arms, Karen stood back from the hospital bed and didn't want her much adored middle sibling to be there anymore. She wanted him to be healthy and taking time to look out for her, like he did on occasion. Tears pooled in her eyes and she let loose a loud sob, which caused her parents to glance over at her. Her mom approached and lifted her up before bringing her over to the hospital bed.

After she'd been placed on the hospital bed, she looked into her ailing middle sibling's eyes for a few seconds before holding out her favorite toy to him. Her mom gently took the toy and tucked it beneath one of his arms. Once that had been done, she softly asked him why he felt the need to leave her, to which he replied that he'd be watching out for her, even though it wouldn't be from the physical plane.

Finally, her mom decided it was time for them to all head home and helped the small girl off the bed. As she walked out of the hospital room with her parents and eldest brother, she glanced back at her much loved middle sibling for what would be the last time, then the hospital door closed and blocked him from her view.

End flashback

Tears again pooled in the little girl's eyes and she began to softly let out sobs of grief. In the middle of her crying, she suddenly felt the invisible presence of her middle brother and her head lifted as her gaze went to the corner of her bedroom. She felt a suden rush of protectiveness from her idolized and currently deceased middle sibling and knew he'd done his best to honor that one final promise.
