Every step you make,
Every breath you take,
I too will breathe.
I stand beside you,
Walk in the paths you have taken.
Sometimes I walk before you,
To face unseen dangers
And unknown perils.
Every time you close your eyes
I am there, always there.
When the sun shines high and bright,
And everything is going well,
Everything is right,
I will feel your heart
And sense your peace.
In these times,
When you have no need of me,
I seem to disappear.
But fear not, for I am never gone.
I am only sleeping,
Curled comfortably in a corner of your mind,
Waiting for when you call and I am needed.
For we are bound, you and I
By a power that we cannot begin to understand,
Or to fathom.
I will protect you,
And you may ask: 'Why?'
But I'll not answer just yet.
For I am tired,
And I must rest.
And so I fade,
Falling again to seek refuge
In your heart,
That safe and warm place.
But I am waiting
Always waiting,
For your soft and desperate cry,
The plea for help.
And when you are overwhelmed,
Unable to stand on your own
Any longer,
And your heart begins to cry,
I will come.
Always.
