A long time ago, in a kingdom called Deltora an orphan boy named Leif was wandering around hungrily in search of food. As he strolled down the street he saw a wooden stand, full of fresh shiny apples. He waited for the owner to look away, once he did Leif snatched the most ripe and shiny apple then slyly slipped it away into his ragged pocket. A guard was stationary at the other end of the street, he had saw Leif put the apple in his pocket out of the corner of his eye. As Leif walked away, he heard the guard had started to chase him, so Leif took off with great haste.
Leif sped through the stone streets and alleys but could not outrun the guard. Leif headed towards the great gates of the kingdom he passed through them with ease, The guard shouted at Leif "No crime goes unpunished in this kingdom!" Leif was beginning to become out of breath as he looked behind him to see if the watchman was still there, he shouted for backup, "Hey you! I need backup!" Two other guards had now joined him.
Leif made his way to Baako's farm as he leaped over the wooden fence and weaved through the animals. Leif heard Baako yell out, "Get outta my farm!" Leif was headed to the other side of the fence, once there he placed his hand in between two pickets and pushed with great force off the ground and over the fence.
Leif had now reached the Forests of Silence, and then suddenly stopped running. He had seen a ghostly figure appear before him gracefully floating above the ground. It was a girl, a girl of which beauty Leif had never seen. She had soft pale skin, angelic light garments and silky golden hair. She saw that the three guards were almost at Leif's feet. She quickly lifted her hands, pointing towards Leif a gloomy aura formed around Leif, the feeling he was unstoppable had grown inside him. Leif then finally came to his senses, he took off again quickly thanking the mysterious figure, but she had already vanished.
The guards were close so Leif increased his speed, he burst out of the end of the forest screeching to a stop, and he looked down the edge of a bottomless chasm. The guards cornered him, with no where to go he jumped. As he fell, Leif felt a tingle coming from his shoulder, as two huge wings burst from his shoulderblades forcing him to stop in mid-air. Leif figured out how to use his wings in a few short minutes so he flew up to the top of the ledge. The guards amazed, watched him take a clean bite from the ripe juicy apple, then Leif flew off into the sunset.
But who was this mysterious figure that appeared to him in the forest? These were Leif's thoughts as he continued to wonder why she had helped him.
