Imagine Kaoru.
Yes Kaoru. Blue-eyed, raven-haired, beautiful, beautiful, Kaoru.
Now picture Kaoru standing in the kitchen holding a plate.
Then think of the plate in Kaoru's hands. Focus on the soggy, slightly charred rice on the plate. Yes, the rice that looks half raw, half burnt and entirely inedible.
See the male trio standing in the doorway, varying expressions of fright on their faces.
Now turn your attention once again to Kaoru. Notice the glare on her face and the challenging glint in her eyes.
See our brave, brave male heroes swallow, sweat covering their brow.
Now you might ask how these four and that plate of rice came to be in this situation.
Hmm…..
Let's go back a couple of hours earlier. Imagine the dojo in the mornings. Peaceful, quiet and serene.
Then picture Kaoru rising from sleep. See her wandering out of the room into the kitchen.
See her stop short
Now think of rice. Yes, those small, smooth white grains that we eat.
Think of a bag of white rice sitting on the counter.
Now imagine Kaoru regard the bag of rice measuringly.
Think of the rice mocking Kaoru with its silence. 'Ha! I bet you can't cook me!' it seemed to say.
See Kaoru's eyes narrow, those deep, deep blue eyes. Watch her pace aggressively towards the bag of rice. Anger evident in the tense line of her body
'You can't cook!!' the arrogant bag of rice 'said' its very presence on the counter a silent challenge to our heroine.
Hear Kaoru growl. Watch as she grabbed an earthen pot and dumped the insolent rice in it.
See Kaoru concentrating, eyebrows furrowed, lips pursed, carefully measuring the amount of water to be used.
Now picture Kaoru silently gloating as she watched the rice cook over a low fire.
See the rice overflow. The excess water running down the sides of the pot making the fire sizzle. Sizzle sizzle.
Hear Kaoru gasp as she ran towards the rice panicked. See her grab a spoon then frantically tried to scoop the excess water out of the pot.
See the rice simmer down. Simmer simmer.
Hear Kaoru's sigh of relief as she returned to her corner of the kitchen to resume her vigil over the rice.
Now imagine the Fire grow bigger. Cackle cackle. See the rice in the pot catch fire.
Hear Kaoru's panicked cry as she once again ran towards the rice frantically fanning the pot with a piece of board.
See the fire grow smaller. Smaller and smaller.
Now hear Kaoru calling that poor, poor pot of rice names.
See the pot of rice gloat back silently. 'You can't cook!'
Now imagine Kaoru angrily spooning that gooey, runny, burnt rice into a plate.
Think again of the present.
Think of the four standing in the kitchen.
Imagine Kaoru glaring challengingly at our brave, brave heroes as she held out that plate of rice.
Same Kaoru, same plate of inedible rice.
Now turn your attention once again to the three standing in the doorway. Same Kenshin, Sano and Yahiko. Same terrified expressions.
Now you might ask why are these brave, brave heroes frightened?
I'll leave you with this
They have to eat it.
Author's notes:
This is you get when you drink coffee and soda all morning. You stay up all night and write weird, weird fics.
I hope that amused some one.
Tell me what you guys think, k?
