My First kiss
Edmund
"Will you please be quiet!" Edmund bellowed out his window, staring down into the garden at his sister furiously.
Susan was sprawled out on the grass, her long dark hair pooling behind her head. Next to her was her best friend Sophie, who was wearing one of Susan's dresses and a ridiculous amount of red lipstick - one hand cupped over her eyes to shade against the sun.
Susan smiled lazily up at him.
"Oh sorry Ed," she began sarcastically, her voice sugar-coated sweet, "are you trying to get ready for your date?"
Edmund could feel the blood rushing to his face, and snapped out the response that he had been repeating for days.
"It is NOT a date!"
Susan just burst out laughing, and instead of trying to reason with her he just slammed his window shut so sharply his mother shouted up at him from the kitchen below.
"Ed stop that!"
Instead of replying, Edmund dashed across his bedroom and kicked the door as his answer.
He slumped down against it, feeling his stomach churning with a mix of fury and something he couldn't quite name that made it feel as though moths had taken flight in his chest.
When did I turn into such a girl!?
It wasn't like Edmund to get so wound up over something so trivial, normally he let things slide off his shoulders.
But something about him asking Alice Wood to the pictures had made it impossible to not get wound up.
For a start, Susan hadn't stopped jawing on about it for an entire week. Lucy joined in too of course, and Peter just put his hand on his shoulder in the sickliest patronising way and said "have fun."
Eugh. That remark was enough to push him into rage- which was worsened when Susan pointed out that if he didn't care then why was he getting so angry.
Of course Edmond couldn't answer that without getting angry, which just made Susan look even more smug.
"Ed! Its six o'clock!"
Lucy's voice jumped him out of his thoughts.
He opened the door and she was stood there, holding a folded shirt and Edmond's best shoes.
"it's nearly time for your…."
"It's not a date Lucy,ok? I asked her to go to the pictures because we both wanted to watch the film and it made more sense going together than going alone, ok?"
When he saw Lucy open her mouth to speak he snapped, " and don't say the word date. Ever. Again."
Lucy nodded and looked down.
"Ok. Ok. I get it. its not a…."
"don't even say it."
Lucy let out a puff of breath and shoved the clothes towards him.
"Here, mother told me to give you these. And….."
She paused, as if trying to decide what to say.
Edmund watched, his green eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Lucy started speaking hurriedly.
" If a boy ever asked me to the pictures I would be so glad. So be nice to her Edmund, don't be mean just because we've been teasing you all week. And we're sorry- or at least me and Pete are. Because we know you like her and even if you don't, don't ruin it for her because I know she has been looking forward to it. So be nice!"
And with that, Lucy turned and ran out of the bedroom, leaving Edmund staring after her open mouthed.
