School Day
"Wow! She is really coming to see me. I can't believe it. She is so cool." My seven-year-old daughter kept saying over and over, she was driving me nuts. But that was ok. She really wanted to see her hero and so did I. Only, I did not know if he was going to show up or not. My Two- year-old son was just as excited except he kept calling for Wolfie and 'Tooth.
I had stayed home from work so that I could meet Storm too since it was me who read in the paper about the X-Men coming to the Bay Area to promote tolerance. They were going to be in San Francisco most of the week with a couple of other stops at near by cities like San Jose. After reading the article, I had a brainstorm to e-mail the X-Men and ask if Storm would come to my daughter's school a little further north and talk to the kids here. I explained to her that my daughter was a real big fan of hers. She actually e-mailed me back! I was completely shocked. She said she would love to. She also wrote a note for Beth too.
Seeing that this was going to be a complete surprise to the school, I called the Principle and talked to him about. He was intrigued. I was startled that he said yes it was ok to have them come and address the children.
After several more e-mails to and from the X-men, the school and me we got everything arranged.
Now, it was the big day. We were all expecting a van or car or something to show up but it was this big black jet that came instead and landed in the playground on the west side of the school.
All of the kids and parents that could come were all standing around in an air of great excitement. Suddenly the hatch opened, and all of the X-Men stepped out the plane one by one: Storm, Cyclops, Phoenix, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Psylock, Bishop, Gambit and Rogue. "Hurray!!!!!!!!! Welcome X-Men!!!!!! We love you X-Men!!!!!" Went the cheers for the X-Men.
They looked startled at first and then every last one of them broke into a smile.
I stepped forward with Beth and Mike. "We would like to welcome you to Linden."
"Thank you so much," said Storm with tears in her eyes.
"I would like to introduce you to my daughter Beth and my son Mike and I am Susan."
Beth immediately went to Storm and gave her a real big hug like she was her long lost best friend. She then proceeded to take Storm into the crowd to introduce her to her friends and teachers.
Friendly greetings were passed around. Then Mike piped up, "Where 'Tooth, Wolfie? Want 'Tooth pleassseee." He asked as he pulled on Wolverine's leg.
Wolverine frowned at Mike as I tried to explain, "He likes both you and Sabretooth. He has your action figures. He doesn't understand the difference between good guys bad guys yet. He is only two," I explained to my hero.
"Oh God, Now we got action figures?" Wolverine gasped in disbelief.
"Yes, I am afraid so." I said with a smile. "And thank you and the others for coming too."
Wolverine bent down to look Mike in the eye and said, "I don't know where he's at right now but next time I see him I will tell him about you, Bub."
Mike's smile almost broke his face. "Me Mikey."
Everyone laughed.
Sometimes good thing happen when you try the impossible, like meeting your heroes.
