Disclaimer: Don't own them, but I'd like to sic this beast on those damn
producers and writers who felt like killing of Rocket in the worst way
possible.
A/N: Just a little vignette that's supposed take place at the beginning of Freefall, when Romano goes up to the helicopter bay.
Pain, it hurts so much, there's no other way to describe it, other than a sharp, agonizing pain. And it's all from the terror. You stand there, rooted to the spot. It's not a normal pain, no; it's an emotional pain. You're used to the physical pain, you've felt that before, but you've never felt pain like this. It terror, but it's manifested itself as pain. You're afraid of the beast that is in front of you; it's heartbeat loud enough to hurt you. You're afraid of this thing, this beast that's hurt you before, and you're afraid that it would do so again. It showed no mercy the last time, why should it do so now, why should it care who it hurt now?
You can hear it breath, you can hear its heartbeat. Although it's a machine, it's alive, and you know it. It's capable of feelings, you've hurt it before and it's come back to hurt you. You're so afraid of it that it hurts. And it hurts for you to admit the fear, to realize that you're afraid of it. You're so scared, you would be embarrassed if it wasn't that you were too afraid to feel anything right now. You can hear the laughter forming on it's lips, and with every breath it takes it laughs at you, snarls at you, taunts you, reminding you of that horrible day.
You feel nauseous, and you lean hard against the wall. You try to force it back, but you're having a hard time. You retreat back into your haven. It can't get you here, no matter how hard it tries. It glares at you evilly, and you look at it. You now know how a mouse must feel when it sees a cat. You're frozen, rooted to your spot. You can only look at it, not knowing what to do, not being able to feel anything but this mind numbing fear and pain.
You've never been so afraid in your life, you've never had any reason to. But this beast, this metallic beast that is so much bigger than you, that came so close to killing you before, it's able to hurt you by just glaring at you with that malicious glint in its eye. It's a metallic shark, and it can sense your fear, and it toys with you. it plays with you, toying with you, waiting for the most opportune time to strike. And you can feel it painfully assessing you; you are its target, helpless to its whims.
It's a beast, and it hurts you. The pain is greater than anything you've ever felt before. And it's something quite terrorizing, its something that makes you weak. You need to get away from here, and now. you jam on the elevator button, barely registering what you're doing, you're too busy watching it, afraid of the metallic beast before you. It starts it's journey, heading upwards ever so slightly, laughing at you all the while. You collapse almost down to the floor, as you finally can feel again, feel something other than the pain and the terror.
