A/N: Twilight belongs to Stephenie Myers.
Just trying something out. My first twilight fanfiction. Here is a taste of it, if I get good reviews I'll continue! Enjoy. :)
Dancing Dangerously
Prologue
EPOV
It was just another evening for me as I stood in front of the floor length mirror in the back of the studio. I checked my cufflinks idly as I reflected aimlessly as usual. My black suit fit me to perfection, the coat-tails just a reminder of who I used to be.
I had been teaching this ballroom dancing course only a few nights, after the previous instructor had humbly retired. It was a new scene for me, and rather exciting since dancing always helped remind me of the time I came from; the early 1900s.
It never ceases to amuse me how dance has become something of a novelty. Most claiming they cannot even dance as to be an excuse as to why they don't partake in such a beautiful act. Shrugging my shoulders at last, I spun on my heel and headed with a determined gait to the outer ballroom.
As the door closed behind me, my eyes took in the lavish circular room. The walls were a lovely pearly white, glimmering in the lovely chandelier lighting that was the room's main focus in the center. I only stepped a few paces across the beige marble floor before I stopped and started assessing the crowd tonight that had arrived. One…two…threefourfivesixseveneightnineteneleventwelvethirteen…right. I was about to wonder how it could get any worse, having thirteen people here, when I smelled her. A bouquet of insanity wafting straight towards me as the door opened and closed; the wind brought it straight to me. The person responsible was just stepping out to smoke; or so they thought in their mind. But that didn't really matter to me right now as I clenched my fists. I could helplessly feel my muscles twitching with anticipation to hunt…Why me?
Not in all my life had I smelled such a captivating scent, in my 80 odd years as a vampire. It had to be tonight. I was so looking forward to having a nice time too. Then I snapped; all thoughts turned off as I walked quickly as possible, without seeming inhuman, to find the source. It was all too easy as I was led straight to her. I grimaced as the power of the aroma of her blood strengthened at her nearness. A deep feral growl that was barely audible to humans burned in my throat as the flames consumed me. Just a room of 12 …no 11 now…humans… no one would be the wiser…No! I can't be a monster! I jerked my head to the side in agony as the internal struggle threatened to boil over. Her gasp was what brought me to. My head shot up like a cobra ready to strike, my eyes devouring every detail of her in a blip of a second. I probably was freaking her out. I had to get out of here.
"Class cancelled!" I shouted over my shoulder as I dashed out of the room, almost too quickly. In the blink of an eye I was out of the haze of blood lust…but my body wasn't so easy to give up. Leaving my silver Volvo in its spot, I just kept running. I ran as far as my legs would take me, fighting all my instincts to turn around and sink my teeth into her.
I thought teaching this class would be a relief, cathartic. I can't just quit something I never even got to really start… I was whining. I knew it. I heard my classic piano ring-tone tinkling away in my pocket as I kept running towards the state line. I wasn't going to answer it. Not now. Right now… I just needed to think. To run. To get as far away from her as I could, before I did something really stupid.
Wouldn't Emmett just love that? I thought bitterly, giving into the run fully.
