Disclaimer: OBVIOUSLY, Fma isn't mine. I wish it was, but we don't always get what we want, no? xD
This isn't really a happy story and it's awfully short :/ I was kinda venting at the time and I needed to get it off my chest XD
Roy really wasn't in any mood for a phone call. Not on a day like this, with so much to do.
"For you, colonel." Riza waved the brunette over, where he halfheartedly took the receiver and held it to his ear.
"This is Colonel Mustang speaking." Roy frowned, leaning against the adjacent wall, phone cord wrapped subconsciously about his finger.
"Heya, Roy! Long time n--" Hughes's voice rang out of the earpiece, and Roy had to hold it a foot from his ear to keep his eardrums from dying on him. Scowling, he moved it back to his ear as the Lt. Colonel's voice decided to lower. "—ut you know, I really don't see why they cut my pay…"
"What do you want, Hughes?" Roy's voice lowered, aware of his expression automatically changing into a scowl as a familiar taste of hate filled his mouth. "You're well aware that you're my least favorite person as of late. Get your business over with before I'm tempted to tell her what really happened to the couch."
That shut him up awfully quick.
"I was just calling to see how you're doing." He could hear the hurt in the elder's voice. (Good. He thought with a snort.) "I had some time off, and buddies check in on buddies, right?"
"Who said I was your buddy?"
"Don't be that way now, Roy…"
"Do I not have a reason to be like this?" He demanded, hissing angrily. "You betrayed me. Again. I think that two times is enough proof for me to state that I don't want to talk to you and you're never going to get my trust back again. For you to talk about her-" The Colonel's voice faltered, realizing that something warm was running down his face. He wiped his tears away before anyone could notice, quickly turning to face the wall.
"Sorr…"
"For you to talk about her in front of my face after you already promised me to stay together forever… Do you even realize how much it hurts? You used to talk about /me/ like that. You used to tell me you wished we could start a family together. You used to take me places and kiss me and love me…and make love to me, too… and never once thought how it would hurt me to see you or hear you did those things for her…"
At this point the tears were streaming openly down the Colonel's face. There was a stunned silence from the other end of the line, but he could tell Hughes was still there from the faint, steady breathing.
"I still love you, you know. Not that it really matters anymore." Roy fell silent again, lowering his eyes to the ground. "I gave you my love, and look what I got."
The elder began to speak, but Roy set the phone down before Hughes could dare utter the two-syllable word again.
/Sorry./
