A/N: Wow. I didn't expect to get so many reviews and faves on my first story. I forgot to add the author's note onto my last story *headdesk* And the disclaimer. I'm so stupid :p So, yeah, thank you all for the wonderful reviews and faves and author alerts. Muchly appreciated :) This is a completely different fandom, by the way, to my last story.

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters, the setting, the personalities or anything in this story. They all belong to the wonderful Jenny Nimmo. I wish she'd give it to me, but to no avail. Boo.

Midnight. The chimes of the cathedral clock could be heard. Within Ingledew's bookshop, the time didn't seem to affect the people within. Julia Ingledew sat at the table, across from Paton Yewbeam. The room was quiet, but a warm silence and a calm atmosphere reflected the moods of the two. The room was dark, and only lit up by the candles around the sides of the kitchen.

"Julia…" Paton started, then stopped, staring at the top of the table.

Julia looked expectantly at him, without saying a word, and put her coffee down. "Yes?"

Paton looked down. "Marry me?" he blurted out, refusing to look her in the eyes.

A pained silence rang in the room for a while, and Paton cursed under his breath. He glanced up, at Julia's pinkening face. "Y….yes," she stuttered, with a smile.

I hope I've got them in character.
