Love…Hurts
I remember the first time I told you I loved you, that hot summer day. I clearly remember the way the red juice from the popsicle I'd been forced to buy, trickled off your lips.
The wind was blowing every so slightly, and the birds had stopped calling to one another. Your head was resting on my shoulder, as I whispered those three words softly.

I remember the time we'd laughed so hard we almost cried. The way your hands felt on my back when you pushed me just hard enough for me to fall into the mucky creek. Your purple eyes were shinning with happiness.
Then I grabbed your hands and pulled you in with me. Then I laughed when I saw you covered with the creek-muck, and you joined me laughing, until we felt are sides ache from laughter.

There was a time back when my mother covered me with bug spray to keep from gaining anymore itchy red lumps. Being a child I asked, "Mommy? Why do I have to put this stuff on?"
She smiled back, "Because they love you too much dear. And when someone loves you a lot, they may do things to show that they love you just as much that end up hurting you."

I remember the time you broke my heart. When you left me to die in the rain, after those wooden doors closed behind you. That's when I noticed for the first time, that in all of my memories, that you had never said those three words back to me, "I love you"
