No Words
The wind blew subtly through the branches of the Sacred Tree, rustling them above the head of the young priestess. She opened her eyes and leaned back against the trunk, staring up at the sun broken between the branches.
He smiled and sat next to her, staring up into the branches. No words broke between them, they just sat in silence listening to the birds chirp and feeling the sun upon their skin. He glanced over at her sleeping face.
After everything they had been through together, the peace at first was very uncomfortable for them, but after a while they got used to it and their days carried on quietly.
He reached over and grabbed her hand. She squeezed and rolled her head to the side, sparing him another smile. They returned their gaze to the sun between the branches. Off in the distance they heard their companions playing the stream with their children; a welcomed sound nowadays. She sighed and fell asleep, falling down into his lap. He stroked her head and smiled down at her peaceful face. He thanked fate for how their lives turned out, for their ability to spend lazy afternoons together. Soon he fell asleep too.
When night fell, the two woke up and they started back for the village hand in hand. Her head rested on his shoulder as she stared up into the night sky. There was no urge to comment how beautiful the sky was and there was no urge to say how much they loved each other because they already knew. He kissed her scalp and she blushed.
She stopped him, got on her toes, and planted a chaste kiss on his lips. He wrapped his arms around her and they stood in silence till they heard their companions.
"Kagome!"
"InuYasha!"
They separated and waved to the bottom of the hill where they were waiting.
