It felt like rain was falling in her heart. Her small paw covering her mouth, to keep herself from sobbing.
She watched him walking away through her high up window. Towering over all those other Exceed.
She remembered clearly.
How both of them sat on the palace's balcony, looking at the sunsets far away. Those were moments where both of them believed this could never be over.
She had believed it.
But now it was over.
She could feel his large paw on hers, defying all the rules set between them. He had never been one for many words, though she did know the words rested on the tip of his tongue. Words he never uttered, words he never would be allowed to say.
She hoped he would not look back at the palace. Because she was crying.
She remembered the little things. Watching shooting stars, whispering their most secret wished in hope they would come true.
Taking walks at night, even though none of them was allowed to.
None of their wishes had become true. And she felt betrayed
She hat let go of his paw, smiling at him as she did. He looked deep in her eyes, hesitating for a while.
"Why are you crying?"
His words hurt her. More than the humiliation of him wiping away her tears gently with his paw. She was not allowed to cry.
She had never found the right words. It had been too hard on her. And she was happy he had not to see her again. With the other white Exceed they had found for her. An Exceed she had to pretend to be in love with. An Exceed who never used those kind words, he usually used.
An Exceed that danced with other peoples beauty queen.
There had been no chance to say "Goodbye.". Regardless of the mutual feeling, which was still alive between them.
It was still alive. They knew it.
He had made one little mistake. A mistake, that would be a heroic act some place else. And he was punished promptly. And now he was walking away, his back turned at her, her palace, her people, his whole race. It made her feel sad.
He received a punishment for an act that was pure kindness. And now he had to leave.
She would always love him. Always, but there was no chance he would forgive her what she did. And she understood completely.
She just hoped he understood.
It was easier that way. He had not to see her with the other one again.
He did not need to swallow words he wanted to say to her.
He was now able to live a good life, far away from her. Far away from all their betrayed feelings.
Their time was over.
It could have been heaven, but turned out hell.
It was better this way, or so she liked to believe.
So, why was she crying when she watched his form getting smaller, the more distance was between them?
She knew it was better. He could live with people who were more like him now. Between people who would understand him better than the Exceed did.
Why was she crying?
"My Queen." words, that made her turn around in hope. In hope he would have come back, even though he never could. Hope that was betrayed, when she saw another black Exceed in his place. She could not have been more disappointed.
"My Queen," he continued. "Why are you crying?"
It was then the tears broke their way, and she started sobbing in agony.
He would never come back, and it was her fault.
