A Hundred Pennies and No Sense!
By Lud I. Chris
This years Vytal festival was disrupted by one of the exhibits attacking the audience. Massive property damage and sixty-four critical injuries are the result of the new Altesian Penny-Bot's being subverted and controlled by forces unknown.
The Altesian Council has been attempting for years to remove the human element in the defense of our kingdoms. The Penny-Bot was an attempt to provide surgical Aura support in Grimm hot spots around the globe. As demonstrated by the decimated festival grounds, their effectiveness is not in doubt.
But now there are concerns about how easily they were subverted and used against the citizens they were built to protect. A small team of unknown figures broke into the secure control room and turned the Penny-Bots against the helpless civilians. Presumed to be the actions of the White Fang terrorist organization, this is merely the latest in a string of incidents plaguing the kingdom of Vale this year.
Despite the initial surprise assault, the gathered Huntsmen and Huntresses in training rallied back and began to subdue the rogue robotics. Noteworthy among these future protectors of our world was Beacon Academy team RWBY, whose own Weiss Schnee was instrumental in slowing down large groups of Penny-Bots with the use of her companies Ice Dust.
Pyrrha Nikos, four time winner of the Mistral Regional Tournament, of Beacon Academy team JNPR was instrumental of regaining control of the Penny-Bots. Ms. Nikos and her team battled their way to the control room and laid siege to the unknowns within. After a decisive battle the unknowns fled into the chaos and team JNPR regained control of the Penny-Bots.
Locals have been praising the aspiring Hunters all day and so has General Ironwood who had this to say:
"I am proud of the young Huntsmen and Huntresses that our kingdoms produce. They reacted swiftly, efficiently, and without hesitation. Due to their actions, this potential disaster has been averted and we of Atlas will work hard to insure it never happens again."
An excellent statement from the head of Atlas's military who offered to aid in reconstruction of the damaged festival grounds. Vale's council has accepted Atlas's aid, and the Vytal festival will proceed tomorrow in the spirit of inter-kingdom cooperation.
But in the meantime, many are wondering why no countermeasures were in place to prevent this event from happening. A dead mans switch would have been most useful in this situation and could have been held by anyone of the observing military officers.
There have also been rumors that this was a deliberate act of negligence from the Altesian military. An official statement denies any such actions stating, "Our first goal has always been to safeguard the four kingdoms from all threats." There is no word on the status of the guards standing guard at this time.
Professor Ozpin, Headmaster of Beacon Academy, was noticeably appreciative of his students abilities, but dismissive of Atlas's efforts. "No matter how hard Atlas tries, they will never replace a humans instinct or ability with a machines. Our world will always need Huntsmen to combat the darkness."
Professor Ozpin has been a long time proponent of the Hunter system, claiming a human beings versatility can never be replaced by a tool with a singular purpose.
We at the Vale Tribune thank both the Hunters of our world and the Atlesian military for their continued protection. We hope those responsible for the disaster caused today are swiftly caught and brought to justice!
