An electron microscope.
Charlie had long wanted to view the world through its powerful lenses, but never had access to one.
Until now.
He'd used his connections, since someone like him wouldn't normally be allowed to book time on one of the insanely expensive and rare microscopes, but there was some benefit to being him and he used it.
He'd had to wait for an open slot, but it was worth it.
When he finally got his chance he was as excited as a child ready to open presents on his birthday.
He took a deep breath.
He closed his eyes.
He opened them.
He looked.
And his world expanded...
