I own nothing of Major Crimes. I only borrow the characters from time to time.
From the prompt, I am my own worst enemy.
I Am My Own Worst Enemy: Friends, Enemies & Lovers
Sharon was on her way to the breakroom for a cup of tea when she stopped at Andy's desk.
"What's going on with Lieutenant Provenza?" she asked.
Andy leaned back in his chair and shrugged.
Placing her hands firmly on her hips, she cocked her head and shrugged, "what does that mean?"
"I don't know." He replied.
"I don't know what it means or I don't know what's wrong?"
He let out an exasperated sigh, "Sounds like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed."
"Isn't he supposed to be your best friend?"
"Yes," he said cautiously.
"Then you should know."
"Look, Sharon, the reason we've stayed best friends all of these years is because we don't share our feelings."
She rolled her eyes and continued on to the breakroom.
Lt Provenza sat stirring his coffee. Sharon fixed her cup of tea while listening to the incessant clinking of the spoon in his cup.
"You're going to wear out that spoon," she said.
"Humph," he grunted.
"So, Lieutenant, what's been bothering you," she asked as she sat across from him.
"What makes you think something's bothering me?" he asked without looking up.
"You haven't been yourself the past few days," She took a sip of tea. "I haven't heard you mutter idiots once."
She laughed, but soon realized she was laughing alone.
"Ok," she said getting serious, "if there is anything I can do, let me know. I'm a good listener."
He nodded as she got up from the table.
Her hand was on the breakroom door when Provenza said, "Patrice moved out."
Stunned, Sharon turned back to her second in command and pulled up a chair next to him.
"I don't know what to say. I thought things were going great."
"They were." He drummed his fingers on the table as he thought. "A little too great."
"She moved out because things were great?"
"I've had five marriages. They all started out as good, but…." He sighed, "She left because I asked her to."
Sharon shook her head, "So this was a preemptive strike? It's better to end it before things could possibly go bad? It's better to bail out than fight for a good relationship?"
"Now wait just a minute," he groused, "look who's talking."
"Excuse me?"
"You're busy hiding behind the old fashioned excuse so you won't have to move forward in your relationship with Flynn."
"I beg your pardon," she said indignantly, "that is not the case. I'm merely being cautious."
"Cautious my ass. If you get any more cautious, you may as well be dating your brother."
Sharon's brows shot up. "Andy doesn't have a problem with taking things slow."
"That idiot has been in love with you for years. Years. He will wait forever if it makes you happy." He looked her in the eyes, "But he shouldn't have to…not because you're too afraid to love anyone, or let them love you."
She was in shock from his bluntness and the fact he was probably right.
"This wasn't supposed to be about me," she said.
"I guess we are a couple of old over thinkers." He smiled.
She pointed her finger at him. "Watch who you're calling old."
"I think I need to make a phone call,"Provenza said, "hopefully, Patrice will take me back."
"And I need to have a serious talk with Andy about the next level of our relationship."
Provenza held his hands up to his ears in mock embarrassment as he headed for the door.
"I'm glad we had this little chat." She smiled. "I suppose we are our own worst enemies."
He paused at the door, "I may be my own worst enemy. " He wagged his finger at her. "But guess who is running a close second."
