Crystal Tear
It was a long and hard fight, but they had won. Though, it was a costly win. Hiei had been slit open. The wound stretched across his stomach. It was so deep, the others feared his internals would spill out if they moved him. The hybrid was pale and flushed with fever at the same time. His usual demonic healing slowed as it fought off the infection that could kill him. Over and over, in his feverish haze, Hiei muttered a name.
"Hey Kurama..." Yusuke trailed off, wiping more of the blood the somehow ended up by Hiei's throat. "I thought ice maidens only gave one tear to their child."
The red head looked up. There, stained a light pink from blood, was a second tear drop. "It might be Yukina's..."
"Fumiko..." Hiei mumbled softly.
"Child of treasured beauty?" Kurama muttered softly, adding more herbs to the slowly closing wound. "Was Hiei in love with her?"
"He might." Yusuke said. "And it could also explain the tear."
Through out all of this, Hiei remained unaware. He was caught up in a memory he wish he didn't have. Her smiling pale gold eyes, long hair the color of the forest top flying behind her, the whispered sorry on her lips... He jerked at the flash of light that came with the memory. Hiei swore he could hear Kurama and the detective calling out to him, telling him to hold on, but that light... it was calling to him.
"What are you doing Hiei?" A soft voice asked. He didn't have to turn around to know it was her, his beloved Fumiko.
"Hn..." He softly answered. It was so comforting to feel her solid warmth against his back once again.
"Still the same as always." Hiei smiled at the amusement in her soft voice.
"As are you Fu.." A soft smile crossed Hiei's lips as she chuckled.
"You're not meant to die today." all cheer was gone from her voice and Hiei frowned.
"What do you mean Fu? " He asked softly.
"Oh Hiei" She whispered. The hybrid could hear the smile in her voice. Slim fingers curled around his arm. They were warm and he missed her touch so much.
"You know what I mean." She said. "You're meant to live. I didn't die just so you could mope."
Her words stung him, but it was true. She had died to save him. She... she died to give him a chance to meet his sister, and look what he did with her sacrifice. He hide and became cold. He never told Yukina he was her long lost brother, and now, he was in some kind of limbo with Fumiko, the woman who died for him.
"Come on Hiei." She spoke after a moment of silence. "Don't waist your life away morning me." The hand she had placed on his arm left.
"Wait!" He called out turning and grabbing her arm. She looked the same as when he left her. Pale gold eyes sitting behind full, dark lashes. Thin lips always smiling, and her hair. That was the only thing that had changed. The green locks fell to her waist, they were only shoulder length when she.. he gulped. He didn't want to think about that now.
"Hiei, you need to let my memory go." She said with a frown. "Let it go and move on."
"He can I?" He asked pulling her smaller, familiar body close to his. "You died for me."
"And you cried for me." She added gently tracing the second tear drop around his neck. "But that's the past." She slowly back out of his embrace with a smile.
"Please Fumiko..." Hiei pleaded as she started to fade.
"Spiky, don't cry for me." A few tears escaped those pale gold eyes. "Let me cry for you."
With that she was gone. Hiei awoke cold and alone in a bed at Genkai's. Was she just a dream? The soft thump of something hitting his pillows, and Hiei knew it was real. There was only one woman he ever cried for, and still cries for today...
