UPDATE- Hey guys, It's ONESHOT time! I love them because they leave the author with a feeling of well-being, but then again, the people who read them often go, "You're not serious that this is a oneshot, right?" But it is. At least, this one is. The other onseshot I tried I think I'll continue, but not immediately. This one is a ConMama friendship, and deals with Skate, Jacket, Jate, PB&J. Enjoy!
She rocks the baby back and forth, her thoughts drifting lazily from one thing to another. She hears him walking in, but she doesn't look up. "Hey, Claire." He always seems to know when she's thinking about Charlie, she thinks irratibly. He sits down next to her like he doesn't have anything better to do, and she finally spares him a glance. She doesn't want to talk, so she tries to get rid of him. "Why are you still here?" she says. He begins to get confused, but before he can answer, she adds, "You really should be with Kate at the beach." He laughs, which suprises both of them. "Jack'll take care of her," he says dismissively, and Claire raises her eyebrow at him. "Really? Seems to me that he's more worried about Juliet nowadays," and Sawyer's eyes darken. "Yeah, well, in that case, she can take care of herself."
The conversation is beginning to get interesting, so Claire continues, still rocking Aaron back and forth. "What do you think of Juliet, by the way?" She asks, and he considers the question. "I dunno. I guess she's made the Doc into an optimist, but Ij dunno if that's a good thing or not. I think she's kind of annoying, but…" Claire laughs now, and says, "Why? Because Kate hates her?"
Sawyer looks shocked, then turns his head away, grinning dimpledly at her comment. "You know?" and she replies quickly, "Everyone knows. She hates Juliet because of Jack, because he cares about her. But, everyone also knows he still loves Kate." He glares at her, but she just grins down at Aaron, enjoying being an instigator. "Yeah, well, you weren't a gossiper before Jimminy Cricket died," he says, and instantly regrets it. Claire stops rocking Aaron and stares icily back, as she hisses, "Don't ever-" He interrupts her. "Sorry, sorry. I shouldn't have. That was a hit below the belt," he admits, and they fall silent again.
"You know," he says, after a while, "Maybe you're right."
Claire smiles inwardly, and replies, "Aren't I always?"
