Tony: That's the pah of it all. PAH!

McGee: She's unflappable

Tony: She's unflappable

"My desk has not been cleaned out in all these months," she commented, running a finger along the dust-covered desk.

Tony said nothing but continued to stare at her from his seated position with an unreadable expression that even Ziva couldn't decipher.

"This calls for a celebration guys! Come on, Ziva's home!" the forensic scientist demanded, stomping her foot and folding her arms.

Gibbs quipped, "at least there's no paperwork." He gazed up at Leon.

"You don't have a place to stay though Ziva, do you want to crash at mine?" McGee offered.

Her eyes reluctantly drew themselves away from her former? Partner, and at the younger but incredibly brave agent. "Yes please, if it's not too much of a hassle for you."

He smiled, "Nothing's too much of a hassle for a good friend."

The boss suddenly stood up and walked over to Ziva, ever so gently giving her a tap on the back of the head. "No running away this time."

Tony: I'm going to start digging

McGee: Well you can't do it alone

Tony: You going to stop me?

McGee: That's not what I said

"How's the head Probie?" Tony asked a week later.

McGee chuckled, "it's had its better days Tony."

"I..um…got you a thank you gift."

McGee looked up from his computer and blinked. Then he blinked again.

"Really?" a grin appeared on Probie wan Kenobi's face.

"Really really."

"Well hand it over then" McGee challenged.

"Heads up!"

The object whizzed through the air and the agent just caught the side of it.

"Your house keys?"

"Happy Birthday! My home theatre still isn't fixed. Drop by sometime tonight? Tomorrow's good also."

Ziva: Tony, why, are you hre?

Tony: Couldn't live without you. I guess…

Unspoken words passed between them as they both stared at each other in the elevator.

"I wanted to thank you Tony."

He wanted to cock his head to the side and grin, 'it's fine. Any day of the week I could've done it.'

Or ask for some form of payment.

Crack a joke.

Make a completely obscure movie reference how this scene reminded him of…

"You're welcome." He replied softly.

It was like an echo of the words he had said previously. In a different place; a different time. But directed at the same person, the same purpose, the same meaning.

Tony suddenly remembered something, and started digging around his left trouser pocket.

She looked curiously at him.

"Close your eyes and hold your hand out," he instructed.

She did as she was told without question and felt a cold piece of metal in the shape of a star pressed to her hand.

Tears pricked her eyes as the memories washed over her.

When she opened her eyes, he was gone from the elevator.
