What Hurts The Most

The lab was quiet without her, it seemed empty now. Greg Sanders stirred his coffee and stared at the surface of the dark brown liquid. Sara had always been his inspiration at wor, even when he had worked in DNA and she had been part of the reason why he had wanted to become a fully fledged field agent. Now, without her, he wasn't even sure if he could do this job anymore. What hurt him the most was that she hadn't even had the time to say goodbye to him. He wasn't very good at goodbyes himself but their friendship had spanned eight years and to leave without a word seemed cold to him. He and Sara had been through a lot together and he would never forget how she had been there for him after he had been attacked.
It was Grissom who had told the team that Sara was gone and Greg wanted to scream at him to show a shred of emotion. After all, Sara was supposed to be the one person Gil Grissom loved more than anyone else. Greg knew that, had been in Grissom's position, he never would have let Sara go without a fight and even if he hadn't been able to persuade her to stay he would have gone with her. Maybe that had always his problem. Maybe he just loved her that little bit too much.
