Today was going to be a bad day.
I woke up to the blinking 12:00 of my alarm clock indicting the power had gone off some time the night before.
Which meant the clock to start my morning coffee was out of commission as well.
Looking at the time on my phone I swore and jumped out of bed. I had time to grab the first thing hanging in my closet and then go. I was halfway down the stairs when I noticed a stain on my jacket the dry cleaners failed to get out. I said a word that'd make a sailor blush. Irritated, I just threw it onto the steps, determined to give the cleaners hell about it later.
On the way to work traffic slowed down to a halt. For a routine traffic stop. Three lanes of road at a standstill caused by a lone speeder. I could feel my blood boil.
When I finally made it to work my usual spot was taken and I had to walk a mile to the front door.
My team beat me to the office. I could feel their stares as I unlocked my door. I was never late. I felt it was a professional thing. Others felt it was a control thing.
I left the door opened, knowing I would not be alone for long.
I was almost to my desk when I noticed it. A large cup of steaming coffee sitting on my unfinished paperwork. Gourmet coffee, not the office swill.
I picked it up to smell the savory smell, knowing only one person could have gotten this in my locked office.
I went to the doorway, coffee in hand as my eyes found the one across the office who could have known what I needed the most. I lifted my brow at him and he smiled at me- his real smile that brightened his whole face, the one I could never resist smiling back at.
Taking a sip of deliciousness I decided it would be a good day after all.
