~*~ Okay so I sorta lied last chapter about not updating for a while but I wrote this in half an hour so I don't count it as breaking my hiatus. Also, its Halloween, and I couldn't pass up having Loki participate in that.

~*~This is Halloween~*~

"Why are there small children demanding sweets out in the street?"

John glanced at the window where Loki was lurking, then down at his watch. "Blimey, is it Halloween already?" He asked, mostly to himself, but he saw Loki turn to look at him.

"There's a higher number of murders that take place on Halloween." Sherlock mumbled from the table. John looked at him in distain.

"That's not true. That's completely not true." John snapped, and closed his laptop to join Loki at the window. They both peered out to see a solid procession of dressed-up children go from door to door. John smiled at the sight.

"So, what is this costumed-and-murderous event?" Loki snarked at his side with a little smile. He was smiling more and more these days, John was very glad to see.

"Halloween," John began to explain, "is when young children dress up, and go door to door asking for treats. Or tricks." He practically saw Loki's ears twitch at that. "It's more of an event for children, but I'm sure Mrs. Hudson's downstairs handing out candy."

"It was inspired by Samhain, if that means anything to you." Sherlock spoke up again. He had joined them at the window, watching the pairs of youngsters. John suddenly wondered if Mycroft and he had ever dressed up for this – Sherlock was probably a pirate at some point. John liked the idea of that.

"Samhain?" John noted that Loki actually seemed to pronounce it correctly, and he definitely perked up a bit in interest. "I've heard of that. I think my people- I mean the Asgardians – I think they had a hand in its creation. But there's no burning festivals or sacrifices?"

"No." Sherlock and John answered at the same time. Loki smiled sadly.

"But there must be other revelries, something for the adults to participate in?" John could practically see him plotting something.

"There are usually costume parties, which allow men and women to dress provocatively and attract a sexual partner." John was interested to note a touch of distain in Sherlock's voice. Loki just rolled his eyes.

"That doesn't sound nearly as fun as running around exchanging tricks for treats," Loki commented, before suddenly tearing out of the room to the stairs. Sherlock and John exchanged glances before looking back to the street.

"Be honest, did you ever dress up as a pirate?" John asked him quietly.

"For three years in a row," Sherlock answered quietly.

An unfamiliar pair of feet slammed on the stairs. Sherlock and John turned to see a young boy at the door, dressed in a familiar gold and red costume. He also had a very familiar face.

"What?!" Loki asked, as if he weren't dressed as one of his worst enemies.

"You're going trick or treating?" John asked skeptically. Loki replied with a very sinister grin.

"Well, mostly tricking. But I won't say no to candy." With a last evil laugh, Loki ran out the door.

"Try not to murder anyone!" John called after him.
