Madder Sky
Prologue: Refrain
Lelouch examined the small glass vial, turning it around lethargically in his hand. The sluggish liquid inside seemed to be of some importance to the black-haired rebel: he contemplated it with a gaze filled with hate and longing.
Indecision ruled his heart. As far as Lelouch's sleep deprived mind was concerned, there were currently two choices immediately ahead of him. One involved him tossing aside the vial in his grasp, allowing him to continue into the future as Zero; legendary freedom fighter, and leader of the Black Knights. It involved pushing aside all thoughts of his sister, and fighting for the sake of every person who had ever opposed the Holy Empire of Britannia. Defending the defenceless, with no other self-serving agendas.
Yeah...something like that, he supposed.
The second choice would guarantee none of the above would ever happen.
Lelouch's hands shook for a moment, before he clamped them tightly together, ashamed of his lack of control.
Selfish.
The second choice was selfish. Abandoning Zero's suffocating mask, and tearing apart the dreams of a nation that relied on it. Forgetting his responsibilities, and allegiances. Losing control for just once, and fading away into the past.
Lelouch felt the beginnings of a choking laugh in his chest. Logic would dictate that he continue with his goals as Zero, but unfortunately he had forsaken logic long ago. Lelouch grinned: the expression was slightly demented, yet strangely confidant.
"This world has no place for logic," he thought, pulling up his sleeve, "not now anyways. Its' people are not deserving of being saved from their own stupidity and weakness. I would've rescued you all from my father, but it would have been impossible to change the very nature of humans themselves. Nothing would change."
Lelouch held up the Refrain, as if giving a toast, "To you Britannians, and Japanese alike! May you all burn in the undiscriminating fires of hell." The syringe descended; all it took was a prick on the pale skin. The drug inside emptied inside Lelouch.
"I'll be waiting patiently for you."
The vial clattered to the ground, forgotten, and the liquid violet eyes dulled, waiting for the Refrain to take effect.
Minutes later, he barely even noticed the presence of another person approaching.
"I thought I'd find you here...Lelouch?"
To Be Continued...
Please take note this is the prologue, the other chapter will be longer :) I don't own Geass. Please review, I would very much appreciate it. Any suggestions to which direction the story should take would also useful. Thank you for reading.
