It took months of dead-ends and detours, but Jack finally did it. His lithe body hung buoyantly in the air, his arms crossed in decisive victory. A fresh batch of snowflakes promenaded through the night air in glorious wisps that tousled the silvery white mop of hair that curled behind his frost-speckled ears. His smile was radiant as he gently landed feet flat on the rooftop. Jack had found Tooth's right hand faerie, a miniature replica of the guardian herself. Baby Tooth's feathers ruffled by the chill, a couple of delicate snowflakes dusted the crown of her head. He walked toward the tiny faerie feeling the snow soft as powdered sugar under his toes. Tooth's helpers were flighty and clever but Jack was more than confident that he could handle her. "What do we have here? A little errand bird?" Jack chuckled. Baby Tooth swept around, coming nearly face to face with Jack. Her lips formed a little O of shock. Her delicate wings buzzed anxiously as she pointed to herself in a wordless question. She hadn't been surprised like this before and knowing Jack's attention was singly on her made her heart bump against her feathered chest a little faster. Baby Tooth knew she should carry on with her work. Any type of delay could through off a night's work for the Tooth Fairy. But with Jack Frost's striking blue eyes holding hers, she felt less and less willing to escape his icy gaze. "It's hard to catch birdies like you. Your fast…" He grinned coyly, leaning his weight against his crooked staff nonchalantly and tilting his head to the side. The tremor of Baby Tooth's tiny wings beat at a rapid pace and her eyes became transfixed to the chalky tiles of the roof below with a bashful grin. "But I'm faster," Jack stated matter-of-factly with a triumphant smirk and a shrug. Baby Tooth looked up with consternation, blushing magenta. Miffed that she had been baited so easily, she turned to flit away. But Jack was faster. His fingers stopped her flittering wings dead, grasping the fragile propellers with firm precision. "Leaving without saying goodbye?" He gave out a teasing laugh and placed her on his smooth palm. Baby Tooth crossed her arms against her chest and rolled her bright eyes in annoyance. "Just give me a second of your time busy bee, I need to get a message to your boss. Can you do it for me?" he lowered his head to her level and looked up at her through his dark eyelashes, batting them a few times in place of saying please. Baby Tooth sighed, knowing that if she tried to fly away he would catch her. The only way out was to hear his message. She nodded to show she accepted his request, hoping he would make it quick. With a quick smile of success he continued, "Ok, close your eyes." Baby Tooth consented and her world went black as her eyes fluttered shut. A nervous butterfly loosened in her stomach at the sudden silence. Then she felt it. A stunning cold burned her forehead as Jack pressed his lips against it. Her little heart, overcome with emotion went into overdrive and a blush roared scarlet against her cheeks. He held the kiss until her feathered head felt numb and dizzy. She finally opened her eyes as he drew away. Jack's blue eyes were still looking at her and she felt weak in the knees. He withdrew his hand and she returned to hovering in front of him. With a final dimpled smile he asked, "Will you get that message through for me?"
